Have you been victim to any of these serve fallacies?
@pango44253 жыл бұрын
Yup. Pancake grip since I first started at 16. 22 now. I've made a functional serve out of it, but I'm sure that adding spin will get me more aces.
@JeffLewistennis3 жыл бұрын
@@pango4425 It’s a tough one to change. I have noticed I can get grips pretty far over to get spin. You just have to really unextend your body.

I was fortunate enough to attend Vic’s tennis college in the 1990s. He was the one that taught me how to serve properly. He also said if you do what he teaches, he will guarantee that you will be serving 70mph when you are 70 years old. I am 71 and my serve is clocked at 68 to 70 mph. Thank you Vic !

Great job Jeff. Vic Braden's book "Tennis for the Future" was the book I used to really learn the game back when it came out in the 70's. I loved his tennis spots during tournament broadcasts back in the day; he was so entertaining! I'm thankful to guys like you and Steve Smith (and so many of his proteges) who have kept preaching the truth all these years.

My coach told me on the 1990s to think about throwing a ball, similar idea. Keep the racquet head above your head with your hand in the ready to throw position, when you uncoil the racquet drops behind automatically. When you hit don’t do it with a straight arm but bent as though throwing a ball. Low toss helps as well.

I have been a huge Vic Braden fan since the 70’s. I learned tennis from his segments on PBS with Bud Collins. I am a tennis pro and USPTA member and I still use Vic’s tips in every lesson!

There is a lot to be learned from the past players and coaches to guide and instruct for the present and future. Braden, Van de Meer are excellent examples of coaches. To this day no one slices like Rosewall, volleys like McEnroe...

Definitely. So many great coaches from the past that we can learn from.

@@Chris-ln9cz percentage cancels out the difference in time. It means you did it during the whole time whether long or short. He consistently did better on serve than Roddick. Roddick served faster period but Federer won with placement and variety. People who could return fast serves handled Roddick because he didn't do much outside serve compared to Federer
