Rest in peace mamba. You see flashes of how Kobe clamps his man up when he wants to. If Kobe had chosen to focus 90% of his energy on defense the same way Pat Beverley does, he would have been the greatest defender of all time.
@mariogv40834 жыл бұрын
He couldnt do that bc he needs energy for attacking. But he still defended a lot.

That’s because pat bev literally has no offensive game except fast break layups and spot up 3s Kobe carried the Lakers lots of times so he needed that energy to annihilate on offence

@Mario GV that's what he's saying. If Kobe focused mostly on defense he would be the best at it. Same if he player point guard and decided to dish out 15 assists per game instead of scoring, he could, and would be thr greatest point guard ever.

Coach Mike Could you do a video on how to prepare mentally for a basketball game please that would be great help ?
@LockdownDefense8 жыл бұрын
If we are talking about individually based preparation, I would study your opponents best moves and in what situations he goes to them. Once you have that down, I'm a big believer in mediation. Being able to control and quite the mind is crucial in sports. Once you are able to do that, visualizations become very realistic. I usually visualize the worst case scenarios and how I would overcome them. This by itself usually puts the nerves to rest too. Seeing yourself triumph against the worst case is preparation enough. This guided meditation helped me out a lot when I started: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZO9koeLeLd9aNU As a team and a coach, I like to prepare the players with our defensive game plan and how we will take away the other team's best options (either play call or personal). Then calm their minds with assurance of who we are and that we are all in this together. I am not a pregame hype man, I want them to trust and believe.

Kobe literally guards the best player on the opposiing team. Pippen guarded them for Jordan. And Lebron doesn't either. Jamal Murray's 2 game winners in the first round of the playoffs, DLo was guarding Murray. Lebron was off ball on Aaron Gordon (LOL). Not to mention Matt Delladova had to guard Curry for Lebron. Kobe is a much bvetter lock down defender than both MJ and Lebron. Period.

too many people act like Kobe was carmelo and didn't play defense. up until about 2012 he was one of the 3 best perimeter defenders in the NBA. when people talk about Shaq carrying him in the 3peat, they conveniently leave out how Kobe would be asked to guard these all time greats while Shaq would roam and protect the paint, and focus on offense. among these all time greats since Jordan's day, I seriously believe Kobe is the best on ball defender of them all. because defense is 90% effort and Kobe would take everything as a challenge. kids don't understand that even tho LeBron or Durant has 50x the physical gifts, both combined don't have the amount of heart Kobe did on the defensive end. anybody from 5'10-6'9 Kobe would guard. I remember during his old man age he was taking shifts guarding Westbrook, harden, and Durant when they were together. because none of his teammates could even control any of them whatsoever. Artest could when he was younger but this was a few years in with L.A. Bad feet, old age caught up to Metta. I remember kobe's wife saying Kobe likes to lie about his height, tells ppl hes 6'6 but he's really 6'4 or even 6'3.5. Impressive considering the tasks he put on his own plate in his career. Guarding some of the guys he did, and even tho he's my favorite player he never had the foot speed of a Westbrook, LeBron or anybody like that

Wat do the best defensive players look at a players waist or the basketball I always wondered how you could steal the ball looking at a players waist
@LockdownDefense9 жыл бұрын
I'll have to look into that, but from my experience it changes based on the goal and situation. If I'm guarding a very talented player who can blow by me I'll just focus on the waist. If I've found a move I can force an opponent into, like a crossover if I jump on his right, then I can watch the ball and go far the steal when I see the move develop. Lastly if they're dribble on the perimeter I'll time the rhythm of the ball in my head and if it gets to three I'll go for the steal. You shouldn't expect or attempt a steal ever the time; getting an on ball steal is part technique and part observation. Great question

@LockdownDefense9 жыл бұрын
jer beau I agree about the team concept; Brad Stevens would want a different on ball force than Frank Vogel for example. But if you're smaller than you're opponent, you're advantage should be in pressuring the dribble pocket. But agility will determine more than your size.

whats the best way to take away the ball after they cross or timing the dribble. also what should be my mindset doing this technique.
@LockdownDefense8 жыл бұрын
Mindset: "head on the ball" I also like to count their dribbles in my head and on the third one go for a steal. This gets you in rhythm with their dribbling. And if they have a go to move, like a crossover, it should only beat you once. Then you should know where it's going. So entice it again (dictating the action) and go for the steal.

“He was despised and rejected- a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all. He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave. But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.” Isaiah 53:3-12 NLT "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 God loves you so much and showed that by sending His Son to die for us so that we may inherit eternal life. We deserve hell but He gave us heaven through faith in Jesus. i have a better drill that improves your defense (like my comment or reply if you like my drill)kinda dangerous but here it is you go to some kind of small apartment stairs with close together railings and then you run up the stairs backwards in a defensive position so being low and legs wide out and back straight and stuff. you try to do this as fast as possible and keep doing it. when you lose balance and are about to fall (dangerous part) you quickly hold your self up by the 2 railings of the stairs that are close enough for you to grab so it has to be in a small stair way or else the danger of it goes up by a lot so have your hands close to the railings to grab it if you fall i haven't fallen yet so try it i have been doing it and i have seen great results :)

I like it! Although there are experts saying backward exercise are a gimmick: ( www.nytimes.com/1998/10/13/health/no-gain-in-backward-exercise-experts-say.html ) But I think it helps when it comes to defense. @martinblake22787 жыл бұрын
This is Jordan's technique though, Kobe did add some tweaks.

Doctor Doom not Jordan all great defenders
@XlightNtrEnx8 жыл бұрын
You can interlock their arms and not get a foul??
@johncepeda35807 жыл бұрын
since its being covered by your body and the offensive players body, its hard to tell from a ref pov so if they dont see it its not a foul bc they cant call it.
@krensic26607 жыл бұрын
Well the ref has to call it. (- _-)

You see clips of Kobe a superstar clamping up other superstars all the time, but I know it’s had to have happened but I’ve never seen any superstars clamp him. They usually just put they’re absolute BEST defender on him😂still get 50

this is laughable lmaoo Kobe has never been a lockdown defender..sound maybe..hes been highly overrated most of his career on this side..still a top 5 player though.
@treythewise59376 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ I believe as with much of his game his defensive stance and ability is some what a mimicry of MJs, who we all know played all star and/or even Dpoy level defense.

And LeBron doesn't play good on ball defense like kobe
@seunstealth8 жыл бұрын
Yet people swear he's an elite defender. Not even sure why.
@TheGeorgeD138 жыл бұрын
Stealth, Lebron is actually a VERY GOOD on ball defender. No need to make shit up.
@seunstealth8 жыл бұрын
George Daugherty You may believe that "very good" is equivalent to "elite" but I don't. Patrick Beverly, Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley and Kawhi Leonard are all elite on-ball defenders. Would you say LeBron is on their level?
@TheMysmich8 жыл бұрын
He might not has elite technique and his intensity wavered from time to time, but when Lebron turns it on, his combo of size, strength, speed is enough to offset everything else. So yes, Bron is on their level. He's also a more versatile defender than all of them.
@seunstealth8 жыл бұрын
Hoang Nguyen So...LeBron might not have elite technique but you're willing to put him on the same level as those who do. OK.
