I encourage Black people to learn Spanish. I lived in Colombia 🇨🇴 for several years and go back every year and learned the language. Fun facts: Colombia is roughly the size of California and Texas combined and has roughly the same Black percentage as the US. And the first settlement of free Black Slaves was in the Americas was In Palenque, Colombia and it still exists today. Where they have kept their African traditions for 400 years. She was a black Cuban singer that put black Latin America on a screen as something to look up to. The word he uses for “stunting” here is “tumbado” which literally means “knocked off”. It’s a play on that first line about offing your wig, but it’s also a nod to Celia Again as one of her most famous songs is “La Negra Tiene Tumbao”. Celia’s adulón ‘azucar’ means ‘sugar’ and she used to say it referenced the sugar people needed to make black coffee tolerable. She was also known for wearing candy colored wigs which goes back to that “knock your wig off” line. Subtitles would not have done those lines justice. Just saying.
