I appreciate that they addressed the difference between freestyle and off the dome. They’re the 4-headed goat with their penmanship, but they gave Harry his flowers for off the dome rapping. Lots of dudes still out there arguing that their freestyles are off the dome. H Mack is da off the dome goat.

I'm a rock fan, but I don't hate on hip hop at all... I enjoy a lot of it... when rappers sample, i take it as a compliment that they liked something in a song i love
@flux19687 ай бұрын
I'm glad you appreciate sampling, it's not a common thing to hear from a rock fan. The truth is, so does everyone else - when the "right" people do it. "Sampling" has existed in the art world as "collage" for decades and no one complained. Even The Beatles sampled - what do you think went into their tape loops? Again no one complained about the use of pre-existing material. Even "All You Need is Love" contains a snippet of sound from a film.

I heard the Steve Miller Band were so excited to have their song featured on Eminem's Houdini
@dopaminecloud6 ай бұрын
@@flux1968 sampling is questionable once your production is a crippled mess carried only by the strength of the original material and then you hide the sources you used to hopefully trick people into thinking you did more than add a drum loop after a lazy chop
@flux19686 ай бұрын
@@dopaminecloud Like anything else, sampling can be abused. I'm just saying that no one had a major problem with the idea of sampling, art made from other sources, until rap artists did it. Sure there were some people who didn't like Andy Warhol's work, but he got more praise than condemnation.

The global meaning of freestyle is you are free to use your style . . . No rules , off the top , pre-thinked , written . . . A mix of every of these or none of the above and you come out with something new no one ever seen before. . . That is FreeStyle
@evil4d6 ай бұрын
Yep, and I would add that "freestyle" means no style, no set rhythm, structure or cadence. Off the dome are amazing for their spontaneous creativity, the pre written are especially amazing imo with acapella like this.

The first 10 seconds you looked like a kid in a candy shop. Bro I first listened to Rap in the early 80’s. When NWA came out, we bought the cassette, but it had the black label on it Parental Advisory So of course we had a friend 18 to buy it. We were hooked immediately. 5 white suburban kids walking down the street with our boom box in an all white neighborhood just 1 mile from Philly airport. Not a lie, all white!! It’s hard to imagine that today but that’s how it was. I personally didn’t get into it, but as a teen I saw Run DMC with the Beastie Boys. What a concert!! Different times, it was probably 65-35 with the whites at 65. No problems that night with all of the fans getting along and being there together as one!! WTF, why can’t that be everyday. Very sad that it’s not. But that night I’ll never forget!! BP, I’ve said many times in my comments , I know you have a ton to read which I know you never see this, keeping in real all of the time is why I truly believe you’re the best a breaking it down especially in my world of music that you’ve never heard or just barely. I’m here brother. Can’t wait for the next one!! Lots of love here from Philly!! 👊🏻💯🇺🇸

Artists used to get upset over samples bc it was only a piece of the original project.. others were just dead against genre blending.. then again some just found it disrespectful to not be asked. At a time when labels were stealing everyone's rights to their work the last thing they were ok with was another artist doing so

Freestyles over technical difficulties. Looked very challenging and would have thrown anyone else off and want to restart. Difficulty level 10

There are four types of freestyle I most often see. Free of style can be written verses over an unplanned beat. They may incorporate an improvised line here or there if they think of one and it makes sense (this seems to be what Coast Contra is doing). Off the top is improved lyrics (can still have minimal filler bars) over either a selected beat or an unplanned one. Then there is battle, which is generally some preparation up front but you also have to have some material come off top to respond to your opponent in the moment. Lastly there is fake freestyle where the beat is chosen and the material is all planned (think Lil' Dicky's first one on Sway where he asks for the Young Thug Check Beat and then spit part of Bruh from his upcoming album).
