As a case worker (not yet licensed in social work), this is one of the most hopeful interviews I've ever seen concerning Coast Fire, as my income isn't much lower than Danielle's. I'm single , on th East coast, so its very similar cost of living. Thank you for this interview!

Awesome interview! I love that Danielle and her partner weren't the normal high income engineer types. I love especially her perspective as a therapist, understanding that this is a way to have options, happiness, freedom.

The courage and knowledge you can move on to something else, spend when you previously saved is a barrier to many. It’s important to live and evolve with changes in life and one can change your budget/spending plan to your new values. Thank you for sharing Danielle

How long did it take for her to pay off her student loans or was that paid for by someone else?

I don't think I agree with this coast FIRE philosophy. It took 25 years to bounce back from the 1929 stock market crash and return to pre 1929 crash valuations. In her case it is possible for her to not be anywhere close to 4.3 million dollars. Especially when you look at the gross over-valuation of the market today. That's why its important to always DCA (which would have returned an annualized 11% during the same 25 year period).

Nothing is guaranteed. But planning is better than not planning at all. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Hopefully adding a decent amount of bonds can help reduce volatility and improve returns in case of market overvaluation

This seems shortsighted... get to $500K and claim success?? Great number... but not infinitely taken care of...

She said she has a masters degree but I'm pretty sure that was expensive so I wonder if she paid that off yet or if someone else paid for it.

$65K - $70K to live comfortably and take all the vacations she would want to take? I must be doing something wrong.😅 I'm not even in Cali.

I don't get stopping when you're so young! You're still able to save some and enjoy life! I have pensions that pay me $130k in today's dollars, but still MAX out all accounts. Hate for you to get to retirement and look back and think - should've, could've, DIDN'T!

What about the opposite of dying with a pile of money and regretting not living life with your family while you had time? I like a happy medium between those two extremes.

@@MarriageKidsandMoney , There has to be a balance, no argument there. I just can't see at any point stopping just to stop. If you have the income to invest and still live comfortably, you absolutely should! However, any number inputted in a calculator is just a "what if?" If you can add to your investments, you add to your investments. Live for today, but plan for tomorrow!
@MarriageKidsandMoney

@@roburb73 For sure! That's the balance right ... if you feel you have a comfortable life today then yes, by all means, invest more. But if you feel like your life is all work and no play because you're saving more for that "better life" in the future, then why not take your foot off the gas a bit? (I think we're saying the same thing really :)
@roburb73
@roburb73 Жыл бұрын
@@MarriageKidsandMoney I took it as her taking her foot off entirely. Regardless of where I am in the journey I won't pull it off until I'm done earning. And honestly, with our pensions we will still invest in retirement through our taxable brokerage.
