Thank you for putting this video together. I have a couple of questions, though... how are you factoring in inflation/purchasing power as well as taxes. Based on Anders current lifestyle, the 4% drawdown of $68k on $1.7M sounds reasonable... but 30 years from now, $68k is the equivalent of $26k in today's dollars (assuming 3.2% average inflation)... and that's before taxes (which as we learned, Anders won't be 100% Roth). How are you factoring this in?

Great question! Taxes and inflation are very important factors to consider. You’re smart for thinking about those realities. Anders used a real rate of return of about 5-6% for his projections on where his portfolio will go over the decades. This real rate rate of return factors in inflation over time. Loosely, that’s the average return of his portfolio over time (say 9%) minus average inflation over time (say 3%). It’s important to factor in inflation because our money 20 or 30 years from now will not be worth as much for sure! As for taxes, consider the type of accounts you’re in and estimate accordingly. If you’re in pre-tax for all, that could have more of an effect on your overall income in retirement. If you’re in a taxable brokerage or Roth options, not as much to concern yourself with. Did this reply help with your question?

@@MarriageKidsandMoney Got it! I must have missed the part early in the video where he's already accounting for inflation in his real return assumptions. Thank you!

@@MarriageKidsandMoney Well depends on taxes etc. Truth is many wil lstay broke because they make too little so they are screwed from the start.

I don't think I'd stop investing until I had atleast 1,000,000$ in investments. Your dollars are just still too valuable at the age of 30 in combination with still being able to make quite a difference in the total amount with additional dollars added.

Some people have different goals sometimes it’s about freedom not money
@SurpriseMeJT
@SurpriseMeJT 13 күн бұрын
Yeah, but the effort to get them to their current point probably warrants a break at the very least. If they feel like they have had enough freedom, they can save again if they want. The key objective of coast-fire is reaching a point where saving can be a choice rather than a need. I do get what you're saying though - there could always be an emergency which might require some savings and maybe even dig into the retirement, rendering us back to being in savings mode all over again - so it's always better to have more than enough first before considering yourself free.
