@TitaniumTurbineАй бұрын
To be honest, I saw that and wasn’t that surprised. It shows there was no need for them to “reinvent the wheel” for the more basic aspects of the recovery vessel. If they would have designed and manufactured new crates, it would have been a waste of time and money if something already existed that met the necessary specs. Just my take and I’m seriously not trying to be a debbie downer or negative nancy here. lol

I'm not defending decisions by Rush. You don't even need bolts. Think: where is pressure? Inside or outside? Water is pressing cupola onto seal. You dont hold pressure inside - where you would need all bolts possible My bet is on this logic: put only 4 bolts on, it will make loading process much faster. We don't need that many
@MikeC_CdnEngАй бұрын
@@ImRandomDude @ImRandomDude, your thoughts that external pressure will clamp the cap to the cylinder is intuitively obvious (means "Uh, yeh... no need for FEM here"). No insult intended, just giving you what every new Eng. grad gets on their 1st day). But only true if the mating surface between the cap and cylinder is seeing compression only In this case there are gonna' be shear loads on the bolts (from water pressure acting radially on the geometries of the cylinder and cap) and moments (which is what I think is going to be the primary cause). The moments are from water pressure squeezing and distorting the cylinder inward like a tube of Crest which are not going to affect the cap to any extent. And at the point of maximun distor'n of the cylinder you'll get the analog "Pop" (!) event you get from a can of Molson's Golden. (Sorry for the textbook,

Crazy to think that that fish could’ve ate whatever was left of them.

I used to clean surgical instrumentation. its so neat that the recovery robot arms are similar to davinci laparoscopic instruments.

It's amazing how I'm looking at this video with the Pelagic sub using its "arms", and I immediatly feel like we could be watching a video from Curiosity doing its job on Mars and it would look pretty similar (minus the poor bitrates and the huge latency, of course ^^)

Just me that restarted router a few times, restarted TV, swore at it even more times just to realise, when trying to play the video hours later on my phone that it was indeed the video and not my equipment 😂😂

Wow, very cool to see the fish and the robot arms work at those depths!

The shock loading when Titan was dropped was severe enough to fracture four bolts and would almost certainly have damaged other parts of the hull - probably including the glue joint between the tube and the titanium ring. Any reputable operator would have stopped all dives and returned the Titan for detailed inspection and testing onshore. It is not impossible that the dropping was the causal factor for the eventual implosion.

@@Smannellites you said it "any reputable operator", Rush was anything but a reputable operator!

I came to say this, I've worked with a ton of glues/epoxies in gunsmithing, man, they don't take sudden shock too well, especially after seeing the video on the "glue joint" and their surface prep was abysmal! Surface prep is everything for adhesion, not that I'd want any type of epoxy bearing that kinda pressure anyway LOL . I'm about betting when they "dropped" it on the mothership with the crane, something cracked/broke some epoxy apart, and they just didnt find out till it was too late...

Aw man, just as it was getting good the sound and video died. Oh well, hopefully you can reupload or do a summary at some point. Love the channel btw!
