Hello, Mr. Craig. I'm not normally commenting on videos I watch but I just can't really help it but write to you. Been loving your "Foraging Videos", the kind of content that I never thought I'd love. I'm learning a lot from you things I never thought I'd need, but really essential :) While watching your videos it feels like I'm hearing it from my "lolo" (granddad). You're such a blessing. I can't imagine how lucky your kids and grand kids are to have you. More foraging videos! Hope you can visit Philippines and Thailand too, if so please send me a message. Yum. Talk about fresh food! Great video. Very informative. And I liked how you showed us how to quickly kill the trout. I love to fish, but always feel bad about the fish having a slow death. I’ll try that next time. I assume it will work with any fish.

Just perfect. I like to use Black Dragon cider (made near you I think) for a sauce with steak and mushrooms foraged up in Anglesey when I visit over there. I don't forage the steak! Those mussels look absolutely spot on - lovely black shells and so clean. It's difficult to find such good ones up north and I wonder why. They tend to have pale blue/grey shells and can be a little bitter.Thanks for another brilliant meal! I'll definitely try steaming that way on the beach next chance I get. Dave
@coastalforagingwithcraigev84476 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dave,the mussels there are exceptionally clean and free of barnacles this year. I would have thought a good low tide in North Menai or the Conwy estuary would be ideal as they are both renowned for the quality of their mussels. Wish i could say the same about my own area. Alas... What is not a farmland, is a grassland. Even forests are artificially planted. For years every wetland was meliorated, and shores of the nearby river were neatly trimmed to allow easy maintenance of flood embankments. All in the name of "efficient propriety". It's getting better now with local laws shifting towards ecology and tourist appeal - but it's slow. Enjoy what you have in beautiful Wales :)

Thank you Spirit Cudaback,I think the equipment is o k for the type of channel. I have researched types of microphone that would negate the effect of strong winds,I don't think any exist.The best I can do is to only film when the wind is below 10 mph. An example is that a newspaper produced a feature on me back in February,where they hired a professional film crew.The used a large pistol type microphone. I was initially excited that the sound quality would be much better,but alas the results were similar to my equipment,regards Craig

Craig, a bit. It is still quite chilly in the mornings and we've had some drizzley days, but that is part and parcel of Pacific Northwest living. We couldn't have all of these wonderful forests and babbling brooks without Mr. Rain! We have very similar conditions to Wales, for instance, that wind on the beach. Same here at times. We have annual wind storms that sweep in and almost always end up knocking the power out to most of the island when a tree falls across a power line. A diesel generator is a fantastic investment to make on Whidbey Island! Keep up the great work, Craig!
@coastalforagingwithcraigev84476 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply J Blair ,it seems that we have the same type of weather. I own a forest (currently for sale) I grow Douglas Fir and Western Hemlock ,the provenance for both is Vancouver Island,they grow very well here,so the climate must be very similar.As you say without rain there would be no rivers,regards Craig

There no freshwater crayfish locally Joe, marine crayfish are very rare and live in far deeper water,regards Craig

search for Scott Rea Project. Hes not a forager, but a UK butcher. He has a few videos where he catches and cooks freshwater crayfish

Thank you Devinalh,plenty of room here,I have been to Italy twice in the last year Parma and Treviso /Venice,great air links to UK. I noticed oysters growing on the wooden piles in Venice,however I don't think anybody would consider eating them !, regards Craig

No, I don't think no one should eat the oysters growing there, unless you want to feel bad after :D. I'm glad you already visited Italy, I'll wait you in Tuscany then, I can offer you some boar if you want ahahaha
