I have just come across your videos whilst doing a bit of day skipper pre course training. The best and easiest to understand by far. Thank you very much.

Great to hear! Good luck in your exams. Remember when you are looking at the lights to identify the kind of vessel. Start with the single red or green, its probably a sidelight, and the rest of the lights tell you what it is doing :-)

When paddling out from the land, it is good to check your heading and the add/subtract 180° - then you can find what your heading should be to get back to the land. If you are drifting - say whilst fishing - then you should update the direction back to your starting point. In very simple terms, you can use the difference between the original return to home heading and the updated heading. That can be applied to the return to the updated home heading, to allow for the angle of drift. This "assumes" that the wind / tide has not changed appreciably. It is an approximate method of navigation. Be safe - be sure :-)
