Hey Walt, thank you for the highly entertaining video. It reminds me so much of my journeys driving to/from the west point of Brittany to Paris. The 580 km trip sometimes ends up as a 10-hour drive because of all the stops changing antennas from 2m to CB/10m, 20m or even 40m (not much luck with this one), then making calls, browsing the 2m band and trying to figure out which repeaters I hear traffic on and how to get in, passing by elevated places, making a detour and staying there for a while giving HF DX a try... I'm glad to see that the CB band is not dead over there and still used by truckers. It is quite dead here unfortunately. Ham radio is a great travel companion, although cops here don't like people driving while holding mikes so I'm being careful 😁

Wawa started in Pennsylvania, outside the Philadelphia area. But love Wawa and can’t wait for the one to open they’re building here where I live.

I recently installed an FT-891 in my truck in time for a road trip. I took a 6 hour trip to Belton, Tx to meet up with friends at the hamfest and having the mobile HF was so much fun. Several of us heading to the hamfest kept in touch and ragchewed almost the entire time and it made the time pass so quick!

As always Walt a great video! Really enjoyed the trip with you by way of the video. You had me go back to look at the map and the way you were going. I thought you were going to use the Cape May ferry when you were in Delaware! That would have been interesting I'm sure! Glad you made it to Rhode Island safely and look forward to your next video! P.S. You should have named the video "Walts Excellent Adventure" 😂😂😂

Fantastic Walt! I have 7100 in my F250. Output of the rig goes to an antenna switch so I can have 2 hamsticks all the time. Also have a vhf/uhf antenna too. Yeah, I have a CB with a Wilson mag mount. My truck looks like an RC toy! You passed about 45 minutes south of me in CT! And I concur on your 10m “soapbox”! Safe travels! 73 de K2CJB

I have an FT891 permanently in my 4WD with a Diamond SD330 screwdriver antenna on the bullbar. Just completed a road trip of more than 9000km through north-east and central Australia. Worked Jack W1FDY and Gary N3SJL on the 14238 net, plus on the 14183 net worked an English ham, then further up the band answered CQ calls from England, USA and Italy. By the way, here we long ago gave up on 11m for the road, we all use UHF CB on around 477MHz, an absolute necessity when we have 50 ton road trains with 4 trailers barrelling along at 100km/h on narrow roads. Hi Walt. They call me RC, my handle is 151 the sandbagger not to be confused with the lawn mower junkie in South Carolina he is also a 151 but I'm the sandbagger. I'm on Channel 11 most days, I really enjoy watching your videos. I'd like to catch you on your trip back from Florida to your home base in Virginia. I'll have no problem going to channel 38 LSB so you can pump it up to 12 Watts, you'd have a better chance reaching me here on the weat coast, Tujunga California 1800 elevation seeing how you're probably running stock CB.. hopefully I can get a chance to talk to you. I don't know when you're going back but I'll keep looking for your post, 151 the sandbager ( RC) I'll be standing by, 73's

Glad you made it safely to Rhode Island! What day did you travel? I did some POTA last Saturday through Tuesday in Currituck and Dare counties which were mostly a success. NW River Game Land near Moyock & Currituck Banks Game Land near Corolla were great as well as Pea Island NWR. At Cape Hatteras National Seashore, all was well for the first 20 minutes; with 6 QSO's. The next 4 took 4 hours! On Tuesday at the Wright Brothers Memorial, I would have been more productive to help set up my young cousin's wedding on the beach! While at Hatteras, a family with two boys from Canton OH stopped by. The boys took a real interest in what I was doing. The older one (13 years old) said he'd like to become licensed! Parents appeared supportive of the idea. Hopefully, we'll hear this young one on the air soon! 73, don't work too hard, have fun! Steve KC4JGC.

I think part of the problem with 10/6m for the techs is that there isnt very many radios, especially newer ones in the "entry" level . You can try the TYT quadbander but I dont know how much I trust that. Otherwise you're limited to a mono bander which I do prefer, usually something older like a radioshack htx 10.

I have been having a lot of activity at my QTH on 11m but 10m is very quiet although I assume the propogation is much the same ? Spent an hour calling CQ on 10 last night at 9.00 pm local time but nothing (25 watts). Went to 11m with 10 watts and got several contacts despite the chaos. Weird - if we don't use 10 we will lose it ! 73 M7BLC.

I experienced exactly the same the other day just outside Brighton. I'd set up in the garden while working from home. Band conditions seemed awful. Really dead. Made loads of calls with 5 W CW on all bands from 80 m through to 10 m. No responses and hardly anybody to be heard. Once I got to 10 m I decided to tune down to 11 m (obviously with by CB rig) and ended up with some great QSOs with 5 W SSB, other ops in Ireland. It was great fun. Made up 26TX500 as a CB callsign. It's almost as if the CB guys were playing radio regardless of what the propagation forecasts were, as opposed to what the hams were probably doing; taking to Facebook and moaning about poor conditions and lack of activity! 73 M3KXZ

Wow I can really hear the ignition noise! Maybe try the NB if you haven’t. I’m very fortunate to have a fairly RF quiet vehicle. Does the G90 have and any DSP noise mitigation in it? On 11m unless you’re running illegal power it’s tough.
