The fact that the whole video comes without a "but" or "however" when it comes to reliability and success says a lot. B&M are incredibly accomplished on creating rides that are packed with thrill and very often huge in their own league (such as big looping inverted and floorless coasters), or towering over whole parks like their latest Gigas, and yet, they are crowd pleasing, silky smooth and that counts a LOT when a park is investing million on a new ride. Kudos to the company for its admirable track record (pun intended lol). And for everyone saying they are non innovative, take a look at what their designs brought to the early 90s and how that would set the bar higher for the entire coaster industry - not to mention the inverted coaster breakthrough itself.

They are, as a company, a true example of absolutely exceptional engineering at play. Their rides have great capacity, great reliability, great longevity, and they are incredibly (almost unbelievably) safe. Definitely a very different design philosophy from say Intamin (who deserves much credit for pushing boundaries to new levels, but sometimes with substantial consequences), but once B&M does offer a product, you can have a high level of confidence that product will excel in every measurable metric. I also love how they use a US steel producer for all their rides.

Gotta love the look and sound of a B&M. Not only can you identify one by its sturdy box smoothly flowing track, you can also often hear them quite a distance away, as air being pushed through and over the track makes a very distinctive low roaring sound like a large turbofan aircraft.

I really don't get this...it seems like they innovated alot (invert, wing, dive, standup, floorless, hyper...). Why are they definitely not innovators?
@minindown6 жыл бұрын
They didn't create the first hyper, arrow did, they just made them better, X2 is technically a wing coaster they just took out the rotation and made them something different, the arrow suspended came out before the invert but those couldn't do inversion, Togo made the first stand up, but they all suck compared to the B&M's. Floorless is a cool take on standard trains, but not "revolutionary". The dive model is really the only thing that was innovated, and that's really just a holding break before the drop, but they are different and really cool. Heck, even the Flying Dutchman came out before the B&M flyer, but the Vekoma's are nothing compared to the B&M's
@zacharygiles29846 жыл бұрын
x2 is not a wing coaster they invented them, suspendeds arent in the same group as inverts so they invented inverts, and floorless is something new they invented
@minindown6 жыл бұрын
my point is that the idea was already there for both the wing and invert. Even in this video its mentioned how the arrow suspended was an earlier concept of hanging below the track. and also, x2 is technically a wing coaster, the seat rotation is an extra element

I ran this a normal speed and that says something. Thank you for such a great video. One of my greatest regrets in life was not to find a career path into the amusement park industry. There isn't any side of the industry that I don't love even the mundane business side. I would have never had the smarts to be a part of a roller coaster development company so I hold these development companies in awe. These guys excite my imagination. The next step always needs to be different and reliable. I'd love to see an interesting mouser that isn't restricted to a small box. Why can't a mouser go beyond the box and do a little unexpected wandering in the park or through uneven geography. Add an element of surprise that riders can't seen from the ride. Advertise the ride by having the cars exposed near walking paths--up and over, quick turns, a quick drop under a pedestrian pathway--mimic the visual you get from Disney's log flume. Put jumping fountains going up a chain hill for a roller coaster. Put it on both sides of the coaster and follow the coaster up to the top of the ride. At the top have the jumping fountain leap off the hill and fall.
@anaz59182 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have very expensive ideas is not just the money they have to paid to make this happen but the regular maintenance to keep everything working. I believe is not the lack of creativity but the lack of funding when they only have to stay within their limited budget. Even huge corporations like Disney and Universal sometimes failed to proper maintain their rides for example the Yeti at expedition Everest haven’t worked for years because taking it off to fix it it would be too expensive, many props been removed in different rides through out the park and been replaced by cheaper versions to save money and this are parks with huge budgets now imagine a small park with smaller budgets.
@devonboulden24962 жыл бұрын
@@anaz5918 There are plenty of rides that rely on props and gimmicks. They're all maintained except (for example) the Indiana Jones ride where the falling ice effect was cut due to expensive maintenance but it's still a ride that they maintained. Alton towers has a mouser that isn't confined to a carny carry box. A mouser like that can easily be adapted to terrain without much cost. A highly technical coaster like Top Thrill Dragster has a simple concept as far as rides go: massive acceleration, a high high top hat and massive deceleration on a basic out and back format. The problem with the coaster is that it is immensely expensive to maintain--so much so that the president and CEO has claimed it was one of his biggest mistakes. There's no doubt in my mind that Cedar Point has been looking for a reason to retire the money pit and now they have it (I'm not explaining this story to you.) Only time will tell if it lives another few years. As for expense, amusement parks are immensely expensive to operate so much so they look for outside sponsorship. Many amusement parks decided to make up for the expense by installing travelling carny rides or to try to convert to a children's park. This business model seems to work only on a temporary basis. Thrill seekers lose interest in these types of rides quickly. Changing the focus to carne rides or children's rides is only a bandaid. And those parks eventually close. Your example of Expedition Everest is an example of doing something bigger than anyone had done before. The Yeti, the coaster track and the mountain were all on different foundations. What the engineers didn't take into account was the huge repetitive motion of the Yeti. It was under engineered and the fix would require Disney to demolish major parts of the mountain and rebuild it--that's bigger than a simple repair. It would probably cost Disney just as much or more than it would to install a new themed coaster somewhere else. (All coasters have a lifespan. There comes a point where they need to be retracked or torn down.) I'm not sure the Yeti will ever be correctly fixed. Amusement parks are a business. When they build a coaster, they already know what they expect the life span to be. A short life span means they lose money. If they make repairs, they can extend the life of the coaster, but there may be a time when the repairs aren't cost effective and they need to retire the ride. And of course there are the nostalgia coasters that the parks maintain out of a sense of pride (but they build that maintenance cost into the cost of operating the park.) The problem with Everest is similar to the chair lift ride that was removed from DisneyLand. They discovered damages to one of the support poles inside Disneyland's Everest. In order to fix it they'd have to tear into that mountain to fix it so they simply removed the ride completely. (Maybe Disney should abstain from creating anymore rides around the theme of Everest.) As for the expense you're referring to, Amusement Parks are required to make their parks a unique experience from all of the other parks. Yes, you have flat rides and some coasters that overlap. But in this business, bigger, different, gimmicky, faster, taller and different themes create unique experiences in the park. All that stuff makes the park a tourist destination. Also adding a new thrill at least every other year help keeps the locals going. *And I do have an idea how to fix the Yeti without tearing down the mountain. It's a little out of the box, but it could work.

COASTER BOT that's true. I went on a day when dominator had a 45 min line, volcano had a 1 hr+ line, avalanche had a 30 min line, flight of fear had a 40 min line, and backlot had a 30 min line, i305 had a...wait for it....walk-on. It was a walk-on. It was CRAZY.

Sydni Schaller what did he spell wrong exactly? Looks fine to me... maybe you should check before you use that super overused roast. And besides it’s a joke. Learn internet sarcasm before you come back.

Well, I, Harry, do a significant portion of the work for the channel, other people do contribute and help towards the production. Both Aron and Andrew, from the live streams, help me plan future videos and also proof read scripts. Andrew also collects research for videos, which saves me a lot of time. :)

I miss dueling dragons so much! They were the first roller coasters I rode way back in 8th grade in 2005! I remember I went on my 8th grade field trip to Islands of adventure and my friends and I would go on that ride over and over again. Such fun memories :)

Dueling Dragons has not been Dueling for a long time before it went though. They stopped synchronized launches when Harry Potter Land showed up.
