I will say, MACK Rides just went all out in this ride ~~ out of all the coasters that opened in 2024, this is the one I’d choose as the best one for the year. The overall experience just looks amazing. Europa Park really just outdid themselves.

@@teddym2808 Thank you so much for replying to me! Well haha the only rollercoasters I have ridden are Hagrids at Islands of Adventure and then Blue Fire, Silver Star and Wodan at Europa-park. 😂 I really wanted to ride Velocicoaster but I was too scared to go on it. 😔 I used to be scared of the rides at Europapark aswell but I managed to do them. Blue Fire for me is the easiest, then Silver Star and Wodan is the hardest for me. I found Hagrids to be extremely fast! For me sometimes during the day I get a lot of adrenaline and then I feel like riding rollercoasters and stop being afraid of them. But then there are other times where I feel "lazy" or "relaxed" like all I want to do is stay at home in life. For me rollercoasters are the best inventions of all time however it's the speed, height and butterfly feeling in your stomach that scares me. 😔 Thank you for your help! 😄

Great review. In case anyone is interested - here is an explanation of how the "singing" lightning devices in the queue work. They're actually called Tesla Coils because Tesla invented them (though he wouldn't have been able to make them play music like that in his time - that came later). When any Tesla coil is "on" it's actually switching its current on and off really fast rather than being continuously on as it may appear. Every time the coil discharges, the huge voltage (we're talking 100s of thousands of volts at least) literally rips the electrons off of the air molecules around it creating a plasma (i.e. the spark/lightning). This also releases a LOT of heat into the air around it. This causes the air to rapidly expand as it heats up creating a pressure wave which we hear as sound (this is also exactly how thunder occurs just on a different scale.) But how does it play actual notes in sequence? Well, a note is just a sound wave that vibrates at a certain frequency. All Tesla coils produce a note when they discharge because all Tesla coils switch on and off at a certain frequency (the frequency/note that the coil defaults to depends on the design of the circuit). So, if you use a computer aided control system* to turn the coil on and off at certain frequencies and at certain times then you can make it play whatever notes, in whatever order and at whatever time you like. Hence they can play any music you want just by using lightning!
@lithix4915
@lithix4915 24 күн бұрын
*For those who want more detail on the control - it's usually achieved with a solid state "bridge" and that mediates the circuit being turned off and on. This bridge takes an input from a microcontroller which uses a MIDI file as an input so it knows what frequencies to use. This acts as the signal/tone generator and so the coil can be programmed to play literally anything a MIDI file can. You can also use these Tesla Coils as glorified speakers/amplifiers and plug the device into an MP3 player/phone/computer and play the music directly through them and it'll sound just like the original music (albeit probably a little bit distorted)
@Greddward
@Greddward 24 күн бұрын
Fantastic @lithix4915! I knew about the coils but not all the technical details. Thanks a lot for your explanation, awesome contribution!
@lithix4915
@lithix4915 24 күн бұрын
@@Greddward You're welcome :) The explanation I gave is simplified but it's already a bit too long for a youtube comment. As an interesting aside, Taylor mentions those devices being potentially dangerous and whilst it's certainly not something you'd want to be shocked by, the part that shoots the lightning surprisingly isn't actually the most dangerous part of the coil! There are in fact two electric circuits in a tesla coil. One to control the the frequency/note of the current known as the "tank" or "primary" circuit. The lightning shooting part is known as the "secondary" circuit and its job is to increase the voltage from the mains power (because this isn't residential power, I can't say for sure how high the voltage is but let's say ~230V) to an extremely high voltage. Anywhere from hundreds of thousands to millions of volts - judging by the spark length my guess is probably on the higher end. This is because higher voltage = bigger spark & louder sound. However, by stepping up the voltage they also lower the current (oversimplified reason for this is because of conservation of energy). For electricity to be really dangerous, however, you need both a significant current AND voltage. The current from the secondary circuit is still high enough to be dangerous but even though the voltage is lower, the primary circuit is FAR more dangerous because the voltage is still high enough but the current is also way higher. Therefore a shock from the primary circuit could easily kill you whereas the giant sparks would probably just burn you badly (unless you got unlucky). Luckily, the primary/tank circuit will be stored somewhere in the ceiling judging by how they're laid out in the video so it's nowhere near the public.

@@lithix4915 bro thanks i wanted to understand how its done. I want to see it done in the U.S tho like you pick a song and it does that. Or maybe is it just one specific sound per coil?
@lithix4915
@lithix4915 23 күн бұрын
@BluestormShre It's definitely possible to have them play music "on-demand" as long as you could provide either a device that can output audio whilst playing the song (phone, computer, mp3 player) or a MIDI file. Doing it the MIDI route would be more work as you'd have to either find a pre-made MIDI for a given song or make it yourself but it's not impossible to have a "jukebox" style list. You can also directly hook up electronic instruments like keyboards/electric guitars and play the tesla coil that way (please note any device you plug into a tesla coil is potentially at risk!) When it comes to capabilities, these coils can play simple chords (max 2-3 notes at a time), but you'd most likely need multiple coils to recreate complex songs. The other issue is that these coils are very temperamental and can sometimes burn through components and break if they play really long notes or for extended periods without being allowed to cool down (the primary circuit in particular will have a lot of current flowing through it so it produces a lot of heat that can destroy the capacitor bank or solid state bridge). I suspect it's for all of these reasons that Europa Park has 4 coils, which is the most coils I've seen in one place like this (usually it's one or two - these things are damn expensive to build at this scale). Finally, if you're interested in coils, you can buy "build your own mini tesla coil" kits (though they require some basic soldering and electronics knowledge, so you may need help putting it together). The one I own actually has a jack audio input I can plug a device into, and I have actually played music through it as if it were a speaker, it's really cool.

I got 8 rides of it this weekend & it is crazy good, right up there in a tier with only ride to happiness & steel vengeance of what I've ridden so far IMO. My first ride was back row & I got a super smooth train, no rattle even on the wing seat which maybe spoiled me a little, I was heavily considering it being my #1 at that point. Of my other rides I got 1 more smooth one in front left (best seat) but the rest were some variation of shaky to rough. We got unlimited access through the virual queue on the european coaster club event & I will say after 3 back-to-back rides I had a headache, still brilliant even with the roughness though! After the first couple of major Mack rides I had been on I wasn't expecting them to hit it out of the park like this, but after doing Ride to Happiness & Voltron within 1 month I can't wait to get back on both, and also can't wait for some of their new projects!

What a great review, that really makes me happy! The screen effects at 4:31 all show people involved in the project. Mate Rimac was already mentioned, in row 3 you have Patrick Marx, project manager for Voltron and in row 4 Lukas Metzger, general manager for Europa Park. Both celebrities ever since they hosted a construction documentary series for 2 years leading up to opening. This alternates with animation of a train carrying 3 generations of Mack family waving at patrons. Can't wait to go back!!

If you did, you would come off ill You can put all of the elements you want on a coaster with stunning theming. i love theming also, but if you want sudden turns drops constant without any actual coaster in a compact shakey layout in places, then Voltron is for you

I had the chance to ride this thing not too long after you did at the beginning of October. I had one ride front row in the right, 6 rides third row left, two rides back right and one in the middle I think third row. Boy, there ARE rougher trains than others. My smoothest ride was I think the very first one and there were some rough rides following on the outer seats on the left side. Amen to everything you said about the coaster. I love the experience in the queue which is then topped by this amazing piece of engineering. If you can, go to Rust and ride this thing. I went 12,5 hours from 🇦🇹 Austria and it was completely worth it.

It was exactly the ride that Europa Park needed to build to have a true 'extreme' coaster in their lineup. I had no issues with any excessive rattle during my 3 rides on it. It is an aggressive and intense coaster though and does have strong forces in every direction, especially the last section which has some very strong positives. Best bits for me are the hangtime moments after the first launch and the stall. They were really fun. Tbh I would have probably replaced one of the airtime moments with another hangtime moment. My only complaints are that it wasn't that re-rideable. It went to my head after getting off the ride each time and I needed a break before coming back to it a few hours later. And maybe it didn't need all of the small airtime bumps between the bigger elements, some of them just felt a bit like unecessary being slammed into the restraint yet again.

Tried it just a few months after it opened and it is a wonderful ride. From the moment you see it and until you leave it again (and a few minutes after) the excitement, the fun and the thrill never stops! Honest 10/10 for me personally (I have only done the middle and the back seat (but many times), so the backwards sections works for me!). I really hope more parks do excactly what you said in the intro: Look at Europa-Park and what they did, and do more rides like this, because then we are in for some good times the coming years! By the way, did you hear the rumors that Djurs Sommerland in Denmark is getting a new coaster for '25/26 that on the official submitted cityplans look like a 95% Toutatis clone? I wonder if that would place them above Fårup Sommerland on your top list, if they do? :D

The Turntable is soo epic during the ride. They are theming it continuesly. Last week i noticed 2 more big theming elements during the turntable. A big tesla coil prop filling out the middle of the LED lightnings. And the entrance/exit to the spike looks lik it broke open. Sadly they had to turn down the music on the turntable because of complaints. Croatia isnt finished yes. In 2025/2026 they wanna expand it with a more immersive part of croatia. A restaurant, a rocking boat and probably a new show theater.

I just think it's great seeing someone else doing 4 across seating besides B&M and the occasional Intamin. I know they've done a couple of them before, but I hope this model blows up 3:15 Technically, Tesla was known for trying and succeeding partially at transmitting electricity wirelessly. So it's actually a really clever play on reality.

Voltron is a masterpiece, but I sadly found it so ruff the time I rode it last summer that it was just crazy uncomfortable. I often ride el condor ( the SLC ) in Walibi Holland I find this smoother then all my rides on Voltron. I really hope they fix’s this.

I had two rides on it this summer on two separate days.. and it was terrible. Ive never had such a shaky ride on a new coaster. We were three coaster enthusiast and were shocked, I really hope that I get a better experience next time. Otherwise I will prefer Wodan and even Silver Star and Blue Fire over this.

I mean, Why not? Put some money aside every month. Book cheap accommodation around the park and don't stay in the expensive four-star hotels, then it's doable. Also book your trip a year in advance. Then you'll save a lot of money

At 14:50 you can see a the rear wheels are off the track. The tolerances are probably the reason why the coaster doesn't feel smooth.

Europapark allows action cams on chest belts on all of their rides. But you need extra permission if you want to have it on a stick in your hand and they make sure to tape it perfectly around your hand and wrist.

@@CoasterStudios how do you get special permission? does it have to do with having a big following on social media? or call ahead or how does that process work?

Front row on this ride was world class. Didnt enjoy the ride on other rows. I felt like it was beating me up. Its a relentless ride with some awesome elements and its certainly unique. I find it a bit much though to be honest. I agree with the backwards part. Dont see the point of it. Should have been higher or had a twist or something.
