+Linden Thorpe Cheers mate. We fished the Richmond River that weekend. Being a local of Ballina yourself, best to approach the locals on potential Jewfish areas. Apparently there are a few. Good luck Linden ;)

Can you keep them down there? We go to jail for them up here in Florida
@CoastfishTV6 жыл бұрын
Yes you can keep Jewfish (Mulloway) in Australia. These fish are regulated by size/catch limits Glenn.

That recreational licensing thing a bit rich in NSW for me, I was castnetting bait one day at NSW side of tweed few years back and a bloke wanders up, and asks " you're a Queenslander aren't you?" So I asked what gave him the clue? "easy mate, that net in here will cost you a fine from $200 to $22,000 ,, everybody here knows that even having fishing gear without a license gets you a fine or fishing without being able to produce your license on demand by fisherie inspectors, cops or even parks rangers " took me about 2.5 seconds to pack up and head across the river, caught some nice mullet live bait and 2 nice jewies got busted up by something huge on 22kg gear that night in Maroon water, never going into blue water again.
@jackvoodoo29004 жыл бұрын
why may i ask arnt you doing blue water again ???

Why are they called "Jewfish"?
@CoastfishTV8 жыл бұрын
The name jewfish refers to the large ear stones, which are located in the head and are prized as "jewels" by some fishers. Some fishos may refer to this fish as a 'Jewel fish' still, but is more commonly referred to as the Jewfish, Jewy, butterfish or Mulloway in Australia.
@cinkidaz8 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I guess I will have to see one in person to know the significance of the "stones".
@CoastfishTV8 жыл бұрын
You will one day. Put in those hours. It will happen. They can be a tricky fish but nothing beats local knowledge and hours on the water chasing these beaut fish. Goodluck Matty.
