My wife's Renault Laguna III just passed its annual MOT yet again needing just 1 bulb which was great news. We hear stories about these Renault's and how they are unreliable yet we are either ⬇️💥⬇️ Links Below & Donations ⬇️💥⬇️ incredibly lucky as the ones we have had turned out to be really cheap to run.
But anyway back to the point. So in this video I show how I do the oil and filter change. We have always done the oil and filter at 6 months or 9,000 miles as we understand that regular oil changes are better for the engine and this does seem to be the case over the last 6 years and the 240,000 miles my wife has done in her Laguna's where we have only done routine maintenance.

Thanks for sharing! I drive a Laguna II for the moment. Build 2003 counting 365.000 km without problems. But I'm looking to buy the Laguna III phase 2 GT 4 control 130 ps. Build 02/2011. Like you I always DIY change the oil around 12.000 km. So your well explained video will come on very handy with the new Laguna.

My wife loves her Lagunas. To be honest she has had 4 I think and clocked up high miles in all and never a real issue. I think in the last 7 years the biggest items were a turbo and a cat. None of them rusted. The Laguna 3 is a really nice car to drive. Did read though that some had weak gearbox bearings as they over tightened the pre-load or something when manufacturing the gearboxes. They are a lot longer though. Think they have more crumple zone at the front.

Done an oil change today on mine. I torqued the sump bolt up to 44Nm however wasn't certain if this was right. I have used a dowty washer which is what Renault recommend, rather than copper.

Sorry we sold it. The only issue I recall reading was sometimes the bearings in the gearbox can go as Renault over torqued the preload.

Ok very good video, but l have a question., in the oil sump there is still around 300 ml of old oil so how can we get rid of it ? not tsking off the oil sump?

Some people user a puller and pull that part down.

There's a thing in the M9r manual that you unusually are supposed to wait 10min before first start. Something to do with crankcase air locks. Also if you have a DPF the oil really needs to be rn0720 spec

The waiting 10 minutes might be after topping up to allow the oil to settle so that an accurate dipstick reading can be made, other than that I've not heard of another reason to wait 10 minutes. Your right on the oil it should meet that spec and be low SAPS if you have a DPF. We have always avoided cars with a DPF because of the cost involved if they block. I had a lovely Suzuki Grand Vitara which I had to let go as the DPF and sensors were £3,500. I only paid £2,000 for the car.

@@CoatsandGaiters From the manufacturer manual: "Do NOT start the engine until the new oil that was added to the engine has settled to the sump. If the engine is started too soon after filling, the oil may be sucked into the combustion chamber via the engine breathing system. Allow 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, start the engine, wait until the oil pressure light goes out (should only be a few seconds) & then stop the engine. Wait a further 10 minutes to ensure the engine oil has settled back into the sump. Do NOT allow the engine to be overfilled. The Engine Oil Level must be EXACTLY ON THE FULL MARK."

Hi mate .. i own a 2.0 dci my self and looking to service soon , and had a look in the service manual and all the spec i can see for this m9r engine is 5w40 .. is that me missing something? Thanks

I think its more to do with external operating temperature versus cost of oil. 5W40 and 5W50 work down to -25°c they would both be ok. Renault do mention using 5W30 if your car has the particle filter (think thats the FAP model with dpf filter). As 5W30 is thinner in colder climates we opted for this oil hoping it will make cold start up's easier on the engine with less drag and being thinner get to all the narrow spaces quicker in the engine. 5W30 you might find to be a bit more expensive than 5W40 so you could use 5W30 in winter and then 5W40 in summer if you do high mileage.

At this type of diesel have to change the fuel filter too when you change the oil and oil filter. Do you have video about this too or you will make one?

I changed the oil regularly on my 2009 renault laguna mine was the none Fap version so used rn710 oil but if yours has a fap it's rn720 oil if you can't find rn720 find a C3 oil instead these engines are old now.

Thank you for the comment Tony. They are old but seem good engines, my wife has done moon mileages on these engines and with regular oil changes we haven't had any issues and total reliability. Always changed oil and filter twice a year.

None of ours had DPF it was called FAP on them I believe. Easiest was to check is the tax as these are £220 or £240 tax as they have no dpf.

Warning, if your car was serviced by Renault they will probably have put the oil filter cap on using an air impact driver.

Think the 2.0 Petrol M4R takes 4.4 litres, the 2 litre Diesel M9R is 6.6 litres for the 740 model and 7.4 litres for the 760 model.

Hi! I have laguna 3, 2.0dci fap, 2011, m9r p8 on indentify book, how much oil IT needs? On service they put 4.5l, i completly With 1.5 l and On bord i have 5 full cercle from 6. Thank you

I thought they took 6.6 litres or 7.4 litres. but my information might be outdated from a Haynes manual. Sadly I'm only a home mechanic so don't have much information on other cars.

@@CoatsandGaiters probably they wrong om service because The level oil Was 4 from 6 circle. After that bord martor Light up for top up oil Level Now i have 6litres..and 5 from 6 circle. I Will se what its happening
