Buddy please tell me how you changed the chain tensioner, did yoh spin the crank to adjust them the k mark? Or just put some pressure with a screw driver and change without mess with the marks 🙏🙏
@cobaltss0720
@cobaltss0720 3 ай бұрын
Move the crank to TDC, which would be the K mark. You will feel the cams roll over and not want to pull the crank. Then before you remove the old tensioner, put pressure on the intake cam chain guide to make sure the chain doesn't lose too much tension. Install the new tensioner and set tension.

great vids you post man!!! i have a few questions for you cause seems like you really know wat u talking about. i just bought a brand new r1 from a dealership, i previously owned 07 and 09 r6's. What would be your best advise on how to break in this bike, wat types of oil should i use for my first services, i worked on my previous bikes my self but i was told that i might void warranty if i do it on this one for the first year. any other advises would be really appreciated. thnx in advance.
@cobaltss0720
@cobaltss0720 9 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks for the compliment! The biggest thing to watch out for when you're riding around a brand new bike, is holding a consistent throttle for long periods of time. I'd try to avoid long highway riding (50+ miles), and try to vary your speed and rpm as much as possible. Engine break in is important, but isn't the death of bikes, like most people say it is, if you don't do it the way the say it should be done. As long as you're not red lining the bike and ever stop light, and doing long wide open throttle pulls on the highway, you're good to go. I typically do my first oil change at 300-500 miles, and I personally use Amsoil full synthetic 10w-40, and their filter as well. However, any reputable name brand oil will work just fine, that includes Yamalube. Some guys run motul, other run Mobile 1, but I run Amsoil in everything I own. I hope that helps man, and if you need anything else, just let me know. Take care Brother.

hi, i own a 2012 limited edition yzfr1, just wanna ask, why u minus 1 at the front sprocket? and also, do u install the manual cam adjuster because u change the cam or because it is more reliable than the stock one? thanks in advance
@cobaltss0720
@cobaltss0720 9 жыл бұрын
Hey man, sorry about the late responce. I originally went -1 because it gave the bike a better low end, and made it a lot more streetable. The manual CCT is a lot more reliable than the factory one. I replaced one to simple get ride of the hydraulic OEM one. I would do it if I were eve run ing factory cams and timing as well.

I'm 17 and will be 18 this summer and in the next year or two I want to get a bike. Right now I have a 2007 Mustang which I will be dumping 80% of my money on along with videos but eventually I want to keep my car and get a street bike. I prefer yamaha and really like the look of the r1 but would it be to much for a first bike ? People say 1000cc is to big but I guess that really depends on how you treat it. I'm 5'7" maybe 5'8" and have rode along the back of yamaha when I was younger but now I want to get one of my own. Subscribed !
@cobaltss0720
@cobaltss0720 10 жыл бұрын
I get asked that questions a lot. It really depends on how mature you are, and if you can respect the bike. These bikes deserve a ton of respect from its rider. Things can get hairy pretty fast, they are awfully torquey down low. I personally have been riding since I was 12. Dirty bikes, scooter, then moved up to a R6. I rode my R6 for about 2-3 years, then got this R1. I've been down a lot of times, trips to the hospital, stitches, concussions, road rash, but no broken bones. I haven't been down since I was 17, but I can tell you I've learned a lot the hard way. Whatever you do, respect what you ride, and take care of it. Also, keep your eyes on the road at all time, and learn how to not get into target fixation mode. Most accidents are also caused by other vehicles not paying attention or seeing bikes on the road. BE SAFE PLEASE! I value my subscribers, I don't want anyone getting hurt.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. With the cams and a decent tune, you're going to notice a better low/mid range on the bike. That's where I've personally seen the most gains, and honesltt where it really counts. You won't be disappointed, that I promise you.

Dude, kudos. This thing is a work of art. Any chance you could make a mod list with links? I'll be doing an order soon for parts and wanna make sure I've got everything. Also, thoughts on going with the aluminum sprocket vs steel (from a reliability standpoint)?
@cobaltss0720
@cobaltss0720 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, means a lot getting compliments like that from guys like you! I just added a mod list to the description, I think I've got most of everything in there. As for the sprockets, it really depends on what you're looking to get out of them life wise. Personally, I'm getting about 6k miles out of the aluminum rear sprockets. I change my Chain and Sprockets our every season anyways, so I'm okay with that life span. Most of the people that don't get a lot of life out of their aluminum sprockets, fail to adjust their chain properly and leads to early excessive wear. I really recommend the driven product line, they've done a great job, and quality is really there. They also make a Hyperlight, which is their steel sprocket, that is lightened up really well. You should get more life out of that one, if you're worried about it.
@motonosity
@motonosity 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, really appreciate it. Yeah I'd love to go aluminum, I just do so many miles each year because I commute a lot with the bike. Hoping to pick up another bike though so that might make it a no brainer. Never done a sprocket and chain swap though so that'll be interesting :P You definitely sound like you know you're stuff haha
@cobaltss0720
@cobaltss0720 10 жыл бұрын
MotonosityX If you're comuting a lot on it, I'd go the hyper-light route, should get a few season out of it. I don't know everthing thats for sure. The suspension side of things, i'm still learning. But most of everything else I've got down. I'm ASE certified, so that helped out a ton. If you have any questions when you get into it, let me know. Good luck bro!

It's not too hard, but it is time consuming. If you take your time, and make sure you follow the service manual for the most part, it should go well. Keep in mind you will have to reshim, and degree the cams properly.

NoxImus well Ive been googling up Jorge Lorenzo (5'7" tall) on yamaha R1 and he appears to reach the ground with both feet. Its possible all his bikes are lowered but id think at some point someone must have photographed him on a normal height bike wouldn't you agree? Ideally id just go to a dealer and test the height myself but unfortunately these bikes aren't locally available in my country. Il have to estimate if I'll fit it and just buy.

Check out some of Grahm Hancocks Documentaries. Good stuff. His coined phrase 'We are a civilization of amnesia' is stirring up the shit pile known as 'mainstream history timelines.'

If Gods not in control then who is you or me?? Very scary just saying. My 2011 R1 is full of torque but not as much as my 2022 ZH-2.

Isn't it ironic that I came to see bike mods and ended up having to hear an atheist complain about someone talking to others about their believes?

There was no reason for him to come to my home and talk to me. I even told him I didn't want to talk to him, and he would not leave me alone. Typically bible thumper though, it's not the first time I've had to deal with them.

Thanks sir. I really like the black forks as well. Get on the forums, or the Facebook group R1 Owners. I'm an admin there, we can find you someone to swap with.
