Thanks to your video I have installed my short shifter. That c clip absolutely f**ked me royal. All the grease there I couldn't pull it out, the pliers kept slipping off. And putting it back in was a nightmare. For anyone having trouble with the c clip, I held it together with the c clip pliers and just yanked the shifter and it all came out.

Did you have to climb underneath and lock the reverse cable before taking things apart inside the car? One of the other videos did it but it’s for a STI. None of the tutorials for WRX have this step.

Hey Mike, I ended up buying the same short shifter for my 11 WRX but when I got my mechanic to install it, he said the shorter we make it, the stiffer it becomes to change gears. I tested it at it's shortest setting and yes it was very stiff. I ended up settling for a higher setting but if I'm gonna do that, I might as well just use the stock shifter. Just want to know if you ended up having the same problem the shorter u went? If not, why do u think I'm running into this issue?

That's normal. You might want to look at aftermarket shifter bushings, that will change the stiffness a lot! KartBoy, TiC, Cobb

I've installed and reinstalled this shifter so many times that I know it inside and out and you've seem to cover most of the bases. just out of curiosity, did you have trouble with the hardware coming loose? I had to replace the SHSCs because they would strip before they ever got tight enough to stay set in the shortest throw/tallest height setting.

I personally would get a shifter with an adjustable pivot point so that the throw is short, but the shifter itself is the same length.

Cobb short throw shifter is adjustable in both the length of throw and the height of the shifter knob. Its funny I was thinking the same thing, then I changed the shifter knob to the Cobb knob, and it lowers the height about a centimetre and it made a difference that I really liked after the first hour of driving with it. Especially 5th gear which has a relatively long throw from the drivers position. I'm installing the short shifter today and pretty exited to feel the difference. I don't plan on going nearly as low as this, I'm going to measure it against the stock shifter and see what feels good before I reassemble the console.

Open all 4 doors, flash high beams 37 times (exactly), run around the car twice and stop on the north side, get in the back seat and climb to the front passenger side, then watch the video and stop posting BS lol

Ye - the car's energy would be MUCH different - wear protective glasses and gloves first. Than prepare for paranormal screw drivers driving around. Than you should be ok. AND last thing I forgot - your seating during the swap may be a bit more comfortable in a black WRX.

man, getting the emergency brake boot seperation was such a bitch for me. hardest part of the whole thing. After putting it all back together again it feels like the centre console is not as sturdy as it was before but maybe I just never yanked or put my weight on it before. Make sure those 3 screws for the height adjustment are very tight. Had mine on and did a fast and hard shift into 4th and it came apart. Couldn't get it into any gear. Was stuck in the fast lane and had to ride the clutch and make my way over 3 lanes of heavy traffic to pull over. Later I read its happend to a few people because of a cobb design flaw. Thats why people go with kartboy. Otherwise it hasn't given me a problem since. Just was very scary. Hope this helps someone.

the trick is to replace the SHCS immediately. the ones I picked up from home depot could be cranked down without stripping, unlike the cobb ones. I also sad some scares, but nothing crazy like that fortunately. I had to grab the shifter assembly by the boot and pull it up to allow me to temporarily get it to shift into the gears in the back

Awesome vid mate, just used this to install my own on my 2013. Most of my trouble was fucking around with the C clip (getting it back in) and some of my screws were crossthreading. Otherwise super easy job.

I have the STi short shifter and I like it! It definitely doesn't sit as low as the COBB one in this video and the throws aren't as short compared to the COBB's, but you can tell the throws are pretty short.

Hey Mike, I recently installed mine on my 2011 STi too, I noticed that there has been an increase of transmission noise after installing it, I'm wondering if you are experiencing the same thing with the WRX? It's not too bad, I'm already used to it two weeks in, plus my exhaust drowns it out most of the time. I'm just wondering if I was the only one. Great install vid by the way!

How come when I put in the Short Shifter and tightend the Bolt again, I can't find any gears and it doesn't even move in neutral??? Please Help where did i go wrong

My cobb shifter is a few years old. Over the last few months it has developed side-to-side play that feels like neutral but while in any gear. Before I take it apart, anyone know if this can be fixed? I don't have my oem any more and I don't want to be stranded.

This is a good Video, but C-clip on the 2006 WRX is underneath the car and I can tell you it's a pain to do. I just installed this shifter and the bushing's from Cobb today love the shifter and the bushings.

Leave it in neutral when doing the install. I don't know about wrx's but he said it was under the car, which means you have to get under it to get to it.

Hi Terrill, Yeah, it's the same on the 2015 STI as it is for the 2014 WRX and STI. So if you watch that, it's pretty much the same method to install it.

Ipwnu11b, you probably set the bottom part too low, that , happened when I did mine and it was hitting the yellow foam insulation and not going inti 2nd or 4th. You can either raise the lower section up a bit or do what I did and.cut that part of the foam out for clearance. Hope this helps

MontelloQ8 Pretty much the same, just one you can go real low, but the front and rear bushings do make a difference which can't be found on the OEM SS. Maybe you should try to get only the bushings and go from there.

Fuel mileage is much greater in a 6 speed. That's a big thing in the market today. However, if you are buying a manual, you care less about economic driving, but it's still better than a 5 speed. However it is quite the opposite. The STI should only have a 5 speed. If you are buying an STI you clearly don't care about fuel economy. And a 5 speed gear box will be quicker than 6 speed gear box. 6th gear is useless for continued acceleration as the gear is so short. It is used for sitting at cruising speed and nothing else. Where as in a 5 speed 5th gear can still be used for acceleration. The gearing differences are the only difference. In a 5 speed the gearing is different providing a different acceleration dynamic. Where as with a six speed, 2,3,4, are your accelerating gears. A 5 speed uses 1,2,3,4 for accelerating. And depending on the powerband of the car can also use 5th. It's the same with a 6 speed, however 6th is much harder to use than 5th.
