I use different saddle soaps often. It is the best product to deep clean leather. I also rinse it off with plenty of cool water. I don't like the idea of leaving soap residue on my leathers. As far as stripping oils from the leather, most saddle soaps are fairly mild and not degreasers. There is no amount of oil that cannot be put back into leather. Oils, fats, and waxes are applied at the tannery during the finishing stage, after the leather is tanned and dyed. For shoes and boots that I polish, I sometimes strip them with acetone before using saddle soap to allow conditioner to penetrate the leather. I am never concerned that the leather will be damaged. Stripped and washed leather, once dry, will readily absorb conditioner and look healthy and new again.
