Wow, those are some gorgeous boots, and from reading on the Cobbler Union website, it appears very well made also. Too bad they only sell men's footwear, because I'd love to see more high-quality women's boots in these sorts of styles. (As it stands, I'm male and they don't appear to have any in my size either.)

Very nice meticulous technique with great attention to detail, thanks. As a “home cobbler” wouldn’t it be equally beneficial to add some glue under the toe plate for added strength and give resistance to the toe plate loosening over time?

The glue that will hold leather and metal together typically will crack from the impact from some wear. On top of that it will look bad if it squeezes out. The screws won’t give out until it’s time to replace the toe tips anyways

thought the triumph was actually brass but it's brass coated SS. Would a pure brass be too soft?

You mentioned the screw goes onto the sole, but not through the sole. What about the welt? Does the forward-most screw penetrate the welt?

So the screws are 4mm long while most of the soles we work on are 6mm and up. Considering about 1mm that we remove there is still at least 5mm to work with and the screws shouldn’t go in that deep. But if we ever have a screw go into the welt or anywhere else it would at most go in 1mm and that’s not enough for it to stick out

Terrible experience with Cobbler Union. I bought a pair of oxfords and they were about a half size too small. Wore them in my living room for about five minutes, put them back in the box and sent them back for an exchange. The couple minutes I wore them in the house put some light creases in the vamp; I got an email back that this constituted them being “damaged” and ineligible for an exchange. A couple takeaways: first, simply trying on the shoes will crease the leather and make them ineligible for an exchange or return. Second, you’re taking a big risk buying from this company without tryin on the shoes in store.
