People in urban areas in Canada really don't have accents. we just have the generic north american accent. this 'oot' instead of 'out' stuff is really only from people who live in small towns in northern ontario and the parries. I've only ever heard a few people speak like this, and i live in southern ontario.

Maria A. only Canadians who live in the northern ontario and some less populated where only white people live. that's where they say "oot" and eh a lot. But if you live in Toronto, Vancouver or the other more populated areas you wouldn't hear anyone say that because of the american influence that these cities have. I live in Toronto and oh man we have adopted a lot of american culture and their accent and language no one uses u in colour or favourite anymore.
@kobayashimaru81149 жыл бұрын
Maria A. We do. It's hard to hear and it's not nearly as exaggerated as our American neighbours make it sound but it's there. It took me a while to finally hear it. I think the only reason I do is because I have a lot of family and friends in the US so I've spent some extended time down there over the years. Generally, Americans will say "about" like you'd say "owl"... where O's have a harsher A-type sound... "uh-bah-oot". Canadian pronounciation is tougher to find an analogy for but I'd say it sounds like "uh-buh-oot".

To all the people saying people from Vancouver don't have an accent or a distinct speech pattern, they most certainly do. It's just more subtle than that of Canadians from further east. I know this because I live in Bellingham, WA, where the hordes of the cheapest, least considerate people from the Vancouver area come to stock up on less expensive American milk and gas. In a town like this, you eventually start to pick up on some of the differences between American and Canadian speech, even if they're very slight.

I sound like a parody of a Canadian whenever I've had a few beers. Alcohol really brings it out in us Canucks. When sober I sound like a generic North American accent with a few "Eh"s or "Oh ya bud" thrown in.

I don't know where in Vancouver she grew up, but I've never heard anyone here say "Oot". The West coast tends to elongate their "a" vowels, not the "o". Daniel Martin Never lived there, been there a few times. Have some family from there. Neither have I ever heard aboot ever anywherein Canada. But Newfies are the holders of the goofs accent that people think all Canadians have. You can thank Bob and Doug for that.
@az09638189 жыл бұрын
garfoonga1 Oh the ignorance...lol, I'm from Montreal by the way. Just Google "Canadians accents by Tremain McNeil" and anything under "Canadian raising". There you'll see how wrong you are and HOPEFULLY learn something at the same time. And Bob and Doug were not mocking the Newfoundland accent. That makes no sense. Why would they make a sketch clearly emulating Canada as a whole, but only using an accent found in one part of the country? Wouldn't they make it clear early on that the sketch would be about Newfoundland? Lol, the insecurity is strong with this one..
