I have a Cobra 29 LTD Chrome. It still receives in SWR and CAL on the switch. Isn’t the radio supposed to be silent. While calibrating?

It's not automatic. Place the switch in CAL and transmit. Turn the SWR CAL knob until the needle on the meter lines up with the CAL mark on the meter. Then place the switch in SWR and while transmitting read the SWR reading on the meter.

Would you recommend the Cobra 29 classic or the Uniden bearcat 880/980 for a truckers cb? Using the stock antennae on a 2016 Cascadia. I was told it is 300 watts. Not sure. Thanks

if your using a linear then id use a bearcat 980. if not Id go with a connex CX-33 HPC1

Have you had a chance to evaluate the schocktty diode receive and noise blanker ? Just been wondering for some time if it is worth it to remove functioning vintage Germanium diodes to replace with Schocktty's?

You can tune a receiver just fine using a scope across speaker wires and looking at the 1K signal on the screen.Nothing fancy about it,tune to the signal and not the noise.

R52 is not adjustable, it's a fixed value resistor. It's part of the SWR bridge circuit.

I trying to learn about the hobby and how they work watched alot of utube school lol and i have bought several pieces of test equipment to try to learn and do it the right way like oscilloscope / signal generator/ spectrum analyzer / dummy load. I use the stock coffin mic, gain is set at 12 oclock 4.1 ratio. Just a pinch of compression it its clean. The cobra IMO is a little bassy. The sp-1a gives it a high cut when set correctly. I like your video on FT B.S. Artist.

IMO it is. Keeps the average level voice peaks up around 90 to 100%constantly. www.w8ji.com/transmitter_splatter.htm Read the Compression and Processing section is why i like it

+Hawk N.W.C. Compression tends to be most effective on SSB. This is why several of the higher end SSB CB radios had it from the factory. Just think SBE Console V or GE SuperBase...

And he would have had a piece of junk made by Giant Electronics. Cobra hasn't sold good radios since 2011. Before that Uniden built all of their chassis. After 2011 Giant Electronics started making their chassis and build quality dropped drastically. One of the poorest made radios on the market these days.
