My two notes here: 1) The car test flopped because you didn't have it plugged in, so the phone was free floating. There was no brace to stabilize it from tipping over when the center of gravity shifted with the momentum of the car. 2) I wouldn't use this because (as already pointed out) there's way too much stress on the charging port. If they could redesign it so that it grabbed the base of the phone and kept the stress off the port itself, then I would love it. But then there goes the cobra coil for basically any other long arm phone stand with a charging cable run along it. Potentially a very tough sell to anyone that cares about their devices.
@zxybabydoll
@zxybabydoll 6 жыл бұрын
Perfectly well said, I was going to point out those 2 things specifically. I also would never use something that will clearly damage the charging port over time.
6 жыл бұрын
the frame of the phone would stio stress on the charger port
@Qblaze
@Qblaze 6 жыл бұрын
@ To a small extent, but not really. Without phones being universal thickness it's impossible to make a cable/stand like this that wouldn't have the connector contort to a degree, putting stress on the charge port and pins. If it were made for a specific phone, MAYBE this wouldn't be as much of a problem, but there's still a lot of risk there.
@Qblaze
@Qblaze 6 жыл бұрын
@ No, because if you're using an accessory that intentionally adds pressure to tiny pins and solder then you're at fault. They can only do so much to reinforce such small things.
@Qblaze
@Qblaze 6 жыл бұрын
@ A) Not everyone has the money to be going out and buying a new phone every time one of these accessories backfires and breaks your phone. B) Taking care of your devices extends their life and reduces the amount of waste needing to be disposed of/recycled, protecting the environment and saves money. C) Electronics die fast enough in most cases because of the detrimental impact electricity has on everything it courses through, so why would you intentionally take steps that have a high chance of drastically shortening the devices life unless you're testing/reviewing the product?

i don't like how it puts so much pressure on the charging port. it looks like the only thing keeping the phone in place is the torque produced between the charging port and the cobra head. the fact it won't work with cases that are any thicker than a bumper case or with any cases that protect the charging port and speakers/mic area - which is about 90% of cases - is a big thumbs down, imo.

That thing is going to strain the hell out of your charging port. Do not use this thing unless the plug fits in parallel to the phone. Otherwise, your charge port will fall prey to flexion and it will eventually, A. become unsoldered, or B. (The most likely scenario), rip the pads right off the board.
6 жыл бұрын
naw the mettle frame would prevent that.
@compzac
@compzac 5 жыл бұрын
@ Hes got it right, the metal frame, if your talking about the shell of the phone aids nothing in the charging port, if your talking about the frame of the port will also be completely soldered to the board as well, look at connectors when they aren't soldered to the device and you'll see that the frame is soldered to the same point as the pins themselves, this has been the case for years even with connectors from the 60s.

CONCRETE Disagree. Wireless charging in its current form is quite frankly crap. Put a bulky pad or dock on your desk and leave it there. If you don't place the phone just so, you don't get full charging speed. It generates more heat, which is bad for battery life. And it's less efficient, taking longer to charge. When there's real wireless charging - meaning it charges in my pocket or in my hands without my having to do anything - then I'm in. But the "wireless charging" we have now is more like dock charging and it sucks, and I'm not going to use it. That said, I'm not going to use this piece of crap cobra thing either.

For the car USB test where you didn't have the USB, a better test would have been to have him hold the phone by the charger end (just the tip) whilst the same hand was against the dash so it would react somewhat with the bounces and turns the vehicle took. It wouldn't have been a perfect test, since it would also have been a test to see if it would stay in the USB port during all this, but it would at least have tested to see if the twists and turns would flex the cable itself.

I may have a use for this like for the many USB lights I have. My walmart seems to have the same as seen on TV products they had six months ago, latest thing is the gecko camera.

I bought a very similar product from a facebook ad back in 2015. No interchangeable heads, and a hand instead of a cobra back. Almost identical, but included 2 or 3 plastic sticky things that the coil could hook into that were supposed to stick to your car's dash to help stabilize it. Needless to say, still did not work very well. I used for maybe a week, then tossed it. Also, even without a case, did not fit my phone too well, as android devices vary in shape and sizes!

And yes, I did have it plugged into the car charging port and it still didn't work well. The point of this type of thing is to be able to position the phone wherever you want. But then having to velcro it to the dash removes this flexibility. It was dumb.

I will be interested to see your 6 month update on this. Mostly to see how it's charging capability holds up over time for the price. We have a cat that enjoys chewing through the small, electrical lines (i.e. phone chargers, headphones, speakers, etc...).

One thing I didn't hear u talk about is the stress it puts on the phones charge port and I've seen more then a few phones unable to charge properly due to the port being severely g from weight or stress being putt on the cord while it's plugged in

the cobra holder if it has a car port connection that is what holds it steady. its useful for like using your phone light to hold it into position/etc. nothing special...but useful. and the reason you would have your phone next to your lappy to watch a video/etc is if you are watching two videos. for instance if you had a security feed from your phone on, while watching a movie on the lappy. etc. just sayin.

Most people I know have a pop socket or one of the ring backings (I have the ring) and you can buy sticker holder things that attach to various surfaces like in a car with no problem

because video does not have to be big but WORK does need to be big. so you can WORK on your laptop and use the phone as a secondary video screen. I REALLY do not like the pressure it puts on the phone jack. That would freak me out as on most phones those are hard or reasonably impossible to fix. I don't know if you did that on purpose or not the the alignment of you and you in the screen was pretty sweet! in the car its not going to work not plugged in. it has nothing to "anchor" it. on your bed similar issue. you have to have an understanding of "center of mass" if the phone is not over the center of the coil your center of mass is off your center of balance and its going to tip. The instructions really should explain this thought some can just intuit it. BTW LOVE your studio setup. gorgeous lighting excellent audio and super clean and slick. Nice!

This could easily be fixed with a clip for your phone and a normal phone cable sticking out so there isn't any stress on your phone charging port.

It looks like the phone is secured by means of the device putting pressure against the charging port. That's a terrible idea. The connections will become loose in no time. If you're lucky, only the charger will be affected but I've seen the carging connections on phones go bad because of excess pressure on them.

I hope someone improves on this products concept. I like the idea of a form-able,flex conduit style shielded charging cable but this one seems to fall a little short. I don't think the risk to the charging port of the phone is as worrisome as other comments try to make it be. The phone end of the charger has the "Cobra Head" backing plate which should take most of the stress off of the port itself unless you have the face of the phone pointed downward while on this charger. Who would use it at this angle? The limited Amazon reviews seem to indicate that the inability of this product to fit some Phones/Cases is the biggest issue. Thanks for the review!
