Allelys transported the Siemens Energy generator, weighing 356 tonnes, from the Port of Ipswich to the Eye Synchronous Condenser Plant (read more: conradenergy.co.uk/energy-generation/grid-stability/yaxley-synchronous-condenser/ ) in Yaxley, Suffolk The heavy load took an unusual route to avoid as many bridges as possible, to reduce the risk of damage. This is with the exception of one point on the route where a temporary over-bridge had to be built, as seen in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4rOZoFvZ759rq8 It also had to avoid an awkward junction that meant it couldn't go down the 'correct' side of the A14.

As someone who's done emergency driver training, i can say that a huge majority of it is trying to predict peoples stupidity, a lot of the time, even though you're in a brightly coloured car, with flashing lights and an almost deafening siren, people are still in their own worlds and don't see you, hence why you might see emergency vehicles slowing down when trying to overtake vs speeding up, many times have accidents been caused because an overtake has been conducted and an idiot just yeets their vehicle infront of you without looking. The biggest annoyance for me personally is when you're responding 999, full lights and sirens, you're having to really push the limits to get to the destination and you're right up someone's arse and either out of sheer detachment to their surroundings or arrogance for staying put, they don't move out the way, and i'll end up stuck behind them delaying my time. You used to be able to report these drivers for prosecution but now everything is so under budgeted, you still can but there's really no point as it doesn't get noticed unless it's really bad like purposely blocking a vehicle and showing the intent to do so. Before doing the training, i had no idea the sheer scale of idiots on the road, now, i wonder how so many even pass their practical driving tests!

There is a maximum axle weight of 16.5t on UK roads that all vehicles have to abide by hence mobile cranes with 5 or 6 axles. This is to spread the load and not damage the road surface, this probably has less ground pressure than a normal lorry.

Now that is a very large and expensive haulage outfit pulling and pushing an equally important and expensive piece of equipment. That size of a moving operation would have taken a lot of planing and co-ordination to make it all work smoothly on the day. An excellent and highly interesting video of very large loads on the move. Nice! A synchronous condenser is basically an electrical flywheel, needed because we connect Renewable Energy (which doesn't have much rotating mass to stabilise mains AC) like wind and solar direct to loads. Most of our Variable RE should be dumped into storing e-NG (renewable natural gas) and then we can mostly rely on gas power stations (which would be NetZero because e-NG is) for grid stability, fixing intermittency (sun not shining, wind not blowing) at the same time. We need these while we're still 'doing VRE wrong'!

From a Canadian perspective it looks like they have sent regular traffic down the wrong way so the load would be on its own on the right side of the road. Really thrilled to see the Lancaster. As a young child they flew over my home along with Mustangs, Spitfires, Hurricanes and Harvard trainers almost every day. I even remember the individual sounds of the engines. The Spitfires had a whistling sound that you could only hear after it passed.

Because it would be difficult to clear the right lane as officers would have to be all over the entire highway just to keep it clear from speeders and such when the wrong lane can be blocked from the start and traffic can flow freely, in the right lane same can happen however it's less predictable of what could happen

Access, you would have to go via the bridge (which is not rated for this load) and bends, it is much easier (therefore quicker and causing less disruption) to take the slip roads in the wrong direction than try to negotiate roundabouts correctly with that trailer. The A14 section of this move was actually done very quickly (considering).

These heavy haulage companies are very specialised, so there won't be enough jobs in the UK alone to support them, so they will do jobs on the continent as well. If they're doing as many if not more miles there, then LHD makes more sense. -It may also just be that these more specialised trucks are only built LHD, so if the UK company wants one, they have only LHD trucks available to buy, and converting to RHD isn't worth it when they spend so much time under police escort anyway.- Edit; Looking again, one of the trucks is RHD, and in another video multiple of them are RHD, so the second sentence isn't the reason (hence -this- ). This company must just do a lot of work on the continent and have both LHD and RHD trucks, and occasionally they need more trucks in the UK for a job, so will us a LHD unit for that.

The convoy went on the wrong side of the A14 for two reasons - 1) the bridge over the A14 at the Whitehouse Interchange would not withstand the weight of the generator. 2) It would not have been possible for this behemoth to negotiate the roundabout at the bottom of the A140 turning right, but would be relatively easy to turn right onto the A140 from the wrong side of the A14. The disruption is necessary if we want to enjoy an electricity supply 😊

What a load of work to just move that. Yea it was big. But why all the police cars, once the road is closed just go.
@markwright3161
@markwright3161 4 ай бұрын
When they're moving onto other types of roads, they need the police to mark a boundary that the general public can't enter. This thing obviously can't stop easily, and can't get going again very easily either if they do, but there are people who are clueless and would step out in front of this thing to get a selfie with it, or just be completely oblivious in an attempt to cross the road or something. The problem with something this size is that when it goes between different roads, police vehicles can't get ahead of it again to block junctions, etc, so they need to get the vehicles there in advance, or if something is driving in front of it for one single carriageway, they are best just staying in front for the dual carriageway for the next single carriageway rather than pulling off then trying to battle through traffic to get ahead of the load again.

Why on earth do the police need a luxury car like a tesla ? They'll be buying Rolls Royces next.

And not a single person in the whole arrangement of this had the smarts to move it in the early hours of the morning when it wouldn't inconvenience shedloads of paying road users....No? smh.

You are not allowed to move that at night. Believe it or not when doing jobs like this you need to be able to see what you are doing. There have been several of these type of movements through Ipswich port recently and they actually go very smoothly, Suffolk police have been very good at keeping traffic moving (there are traffic management companies with temporary lights at some junctions) once the police get there and take over the bikers direct traffic and keep it moving until the very last minute and realise it as soon as possible. The journey takes time but is effectively done in lots of short sections so no is inconvenienced for long.

@@johnspear3452 I remember the biggest load ever to be transported on a British motorway back in 1998 and that was at night.

@@cityzens634 There has probably been some incident somewhere that killed people or something from oversized stuff moving at night, fatigue from working at night or not being able to see or something blamed, and so legislation got passed to prevent night moves from that point on.

There's probably a lot more time between the rolling road block clearing the last of the traffic and the bikes coming down the wrong way. I'm pretty sure dual carriageways need to have 'sectors' shut down completely before anything can even face the wrong way, nevermind start driving/riding the wrong way.

I woudk nit trust a Tesla . Prone to break down or be late. Police on horses wilk be more reliable and less emissions in building their hoofs 😅

But the horses fart too much from their vegan diets. Apparently that blows away the ice caps or something :)

@@adambro5480 this has been put into place because network cannot cope! We are so reliant on wind turbines that’s when there is no wind they going to have a gas power station power station as back up on Brome old airfield. This is all linked together! I know as work on project!
