Note: the photo is not from the Coca-Cola show. The original article didn't have any pictures, so I took this one from the same issue.

My grandmother was born 2 months after this. She’s 95 and still kicking.

May she be younger today than she was yesterday. May she have another ninety five birthdays, with an option to rinse and repeat. May Hashem smile upon her and bless her.

I remember my Grandparents telling me they would walk for miles just to listen to a Saturday night radio show might been Grand old Opera show? playing out of Wheeling WV. Radio was like a miracle back in them days.

There is a Nero Wolfe mystery from the late 40s which may have been inspired by this: someone tries to murder the star of the show by poisoning the soda they drink in the sponsored segment, but it turns out she actually hates it and always substitutes it, so someone else dies instead...

I’m a huge Nero Wolfe fan. Read all of Rex Stouts novels and short stories.

I actually think based on the date of the book that it was inspired by a more popular show. The Maxwell House Good News program from the late 30s early 40s that did something similar.

The Coca-Cola show may have been bad (we'll never know for sure) but hearing McKinney's Cotton Pickers' "Shag Nasty" leading into and out of the narration was very good. The fellow at the far left in this picture looks very much like a young Bob Elliott of later Bob & Ray fame.

@@harryhanz1690 Which makes it rather unlikely that it actually IS Bob Elliot, doesn't it.

It's amazing how radio has endured since the heady early days of 1897.

So, here's the question all of your Viewers are wondering about.... Did any other company actually try those suggested ideas back then?

Bring forth the GOON show, with Spunk Muligog, Blue bottle, & Hairy Sea-comb.

I first heard the Goons on my shortwave radio via the BBC. Mid late 1950s as I recall. They inspired Monty Python.

Writer’s Advice: Hire best selling authors. (Real Life) Anne Hummert: How about I write plot outlines for like 20 soap operas at a time and hire writers who can write fast to do the dialogue. (Avalanche of money flows to Anne Hummert.)

Does anyone know what all of the little clips as part of the channel intro are from? I think I recognise Chaplin in one of them, but I might be wrong.
