My Grandmother's second husband worked on the ship that the murderer Dr. Crippen was trying to flee to North America on in 1910 when the captain radioed authorities that he was aboard. I believe this was the first time ship to shore radio led to an arrest.

I always wish radio recordings involving music programs survived from the early 20’s. They sound so magical. Keep up the good work 👍🏾

Awesome, awesome video!...I can’t think of a better way to commemorate the centennial of the dawn of commercial broadcasting than to browse through these old magazines…thank you so much for your research efforts and referencing the sources as I always do follow-up reading!!...You sure got a lot for a quarter as a Radio Broadcast subscriber back in 1923!!!

This was fantastic, wow. I am taking my technician license test next week, and have been listening to shortwave all my life. Since I got a cb radio about a year ago, there has been incredible skip and DXing conditions, allowing me to talk to people all over the world. Last night I talked on a cb radio with a 120 foot antenna to Cork, Ireland. I could hear him perfectly from Florida, and vice versa! It was fantastic. Thanks!

Those are great pictures. It captures what radio was like in the early 20s. I can see how state of the art those radios were compared to the gramophones.

I just acquired a 1929 Sparton AC Receiver in rough condition. I really hope it still works.

With ratio and flight in its infancy, it must have been an exciting time to be alive

10,000 meters is an insanely low frequency, about 30Khz, even AM radio is in about the 500-1000Khz range, that must have only been good enough for telegraph signals, but it will travel insanely far with little power. Also, that 101 year old man is crazy, he was alive when Jefferson was and lived to see the widespread adoption of electricity, and of course radio.

It's fun to consider what types of technology TODAY are essentially still in this "stage" of development compared to what we did with Radio (and later Television which is just the same tech+)

Early radio technology, but not the earliest. Over 100 years old now, but I wonder how many people today have the least understanding of even this technology?

Shouldn’t WOC Davenport Iowa be mentioned in this video. It is one of the first radio stations in the United States. It was founded in the 1920s by BJ Palmer. It’s still on the air in 2023.
