There was a serious change in diet and cage needed, including more toys, natural wood perches, and a bigger cage in general. Judging on the amount of poop in the cage and how they talked about it, this wasn’t just for travel. A seed diet isn’t healthy. Unless the seeds are sprouted, but even then you need nutritious seeds to balance their diet with a good veggie chop. Another good diet is pellets plus veggie chop, which is what my bird eats. Veggie chop daily consisting of collard greens, cauliflower, carrots, ect. This isn’t everything you need to know about owning a tiel, just a small amount of information some might find interesting. And I do agree, I’m glad he didn’t say “your killing your bird” although it can be thought of like that, since a lot of people like the kid are misinformed on a birds needs. And it helps to be calmer instead of being harsh in order for them to change. Saying that he thinking they can fix the birds diet and have a healthy and happy tiel someday soon is probably the best thing he could have said, as it gives the owner hope to fix the problems.

@@stephhhie17 Like the comment below you said, pretending to eat the veggie in front of your bird is a great way to try and get them curious! If they still don’t seem to like their veggies, you can try to give them the dehydrated vegetables. I’ve heard of some birds not liking the wetness of their vegetables, so taking out the moisture might make them a little more appetizing! Even sprouting some seeds can be a nice way to interest them in their greens! Make sure to be patient and keep offering them the food. It can take many tries to convince them to eat new things! Also, if you looking to convert your bird diet from seeds to pellets, there are a couple things you can try. You can crush the pellets and dust the seeds with them, to get your bird to at least taste a bit or the pellets. You can take their normal seed mix and mix it with pellets, so they have to sort around the pellets to find their seeds. I’ve also heard of some people putting a bit of bird safe fruit juice (not store bought, since it usually has extra sugar) on the pellets to try and make the taste more flavorful. I would suggest joining the discord (Birbcord), there are a lot of people there that can probably help answer more questions than I can! Joining any good bird group can be a fun way to learn and discuss new things about your bird and the care they need. (Please correct me if you think any of this information is wrong, I am very open to learn new things!)

I’ve seen comments from a few years ago that probably worked out saying they’re showing their birds fruits and veg but they don’t eat them. If you’re having this problem now the best thing you can do is eat them WITH the bird! Nibble on it a bit or pretend to do so and hold it under its beak. It took like one-two days for them to learn its food.
@akulkis11 күн бұрын
Another thing to do is withhold the seeds and give only the new food mix. The bird WILL eventually get hungry and then WILL start eating what provided, out of desperation. Birds are essentially autistic and extremely prone to habit and generally avoiding changes in routine and food if they have any way of avoiding it. They will generally not take up a new food if it's merely added to the mix of whatever is currently being fed -- they'll just regard the new components with suspicion and pick around the new foods in favor of the food items they already know and like. Therefore, the only way to add new foods to a food mix is to replace the known food mixture with the food to be added for several days or more and then once the bird is eating the new food regularly without hesitation, only then introduce the new food as part of a larger variety in a mix.

I don’t use sandpaper perches. Because if it’s rough enough to keep their nails trim it’s capable of doing the same to the skin of their feet. Yours may be okay but rubbed sore feet is a surprisingly common injury. I also don’t know what selection you have available in your area but where I am, sand paper perches are straight and coated in grit. I’ve budgies and most of their perches are just wide enough for their nails tips to rub against and I only need to trim their nails once a year or two. Their cheaper too as I’ve plenty of parrot safe trees in my area that drop fun perches after every storm.

Don’t mix them with the seed because your bird will just ignore it, what I did was use a seperate food bowl and sprinkled a small amount of sunflower seeds in with the pellets (because my bird goes nuts for sunflower seeds), so add whatever is your bird’s favourite treat. You can try crushing the pellets into smaller pieces as well. Once your bird starts to eat them, slowly day by day increase the amount of pellets and decrease the amount of seeds you give her. Please don’t take seed out of her diet immediately because she will starve. It’s a slow process and many days I felt so disheartened because my bird was so stubborn, even though I still have a ways to go with my bird, he has made incredible progress and hates dried fruit but loves fresh apples and will eat anything from my hand. Also do a lot of research into bird behaviour so that you can understand what your bird is trying to tell you, and any warning signs of sickness (I have researched into healthy and unhealthy bird poop before 💀), as well as mating behaviour. Sorry for the long paragraph, but hopefully it helps you with your birdy:)

Also look into getting a calcium perch for your bird. It’s gentle on their feet and will help keep their claws from over growing, as well as its beak. And will give your bird calcium from chewing on it, also is good for enrichment. My bird loves his, especially because it’s the highest perch in his cage.

@@DrBrennan Or it's KZbin bots making sure a video doesn't become too popular, which I find ridiculous, sometimes I'll click on a youtuber I likes video the day it is uploaded, and sometimes there are more likes or comments that views as it doesn't seem bots count as views, they are just put forward as likes, dislikes or comments. I find it very strange KZbin felt this to be a necessary additive to the site, I just don't understand why they feel it benefits anyone to have fake comments, likes or dislikes just so they can see more balanced like - dislike ratios 🤔🤷♀️

@@mehere8038 I haven’t watched this in a week so I don’t remember. He always does his best, tho. Maybe it was a situation that the person couldn’t afford that and so let the vet there film the experience to give him treatment for free. I don’t think he intentionally did anything wrong, tho.

THIS IS WHY YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING A PET. Join facebook groups, ask reputable avian vets, as reputable breeders. As a cockatiel owner this makes me so mad that the parents and the girl didn't do a lick of research on how to properly care for an exotic pet

My aunt has a cockatoo and she feeds it all sorts if nuts, fruits, and other stuff, and seeds are no more than a treat. I was already scared when I heard she was feeding it seeds all the time. Birds need mixed fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds as a treat.

well there is, Bubbles had very bad liver problems
@michelhaykal19653 жыл бұрын
Fatty liver disease is a very common dangerous disease that can be easily avoided if pet stores wake up and realize that if it happens in the wild it doesn’t happen in captivity and give correct advise to pet owners. I have a cockatiel and he had a bunch of diseases luckily i managed to treat him in time he only has flaky feet so pls can i get good advice on how to treat that because there are no vets near were i live that know how to treat parrots?

I believe Bubbles has mites and can Abe treated with a bird-mite solution you buy at a pet store.
@Maria_Bu3 жыл бұрын
It is possible, I have the same issue with a starling I own. However, there are better options to eradicate mites than pet store products. Ivermectin is a good option. Also, I would expect crusty nares and feet if Bubbles has mites. The liver could be fatty because of the seed diet, this is not uncommon and I think the vet is on the right track. A diet of sprouted seeds, protein (nuts and eggs), and vegetables and supplemented with a little bit of pellet is a good option; also, in nature, these animals do not have a constant supply of food.

I thought you needed to keep the cuttle bone up, fixed to the upper side of the cage. Pooping on it would then be less likely.

How awful. Liver disease? I can’t finish this video. Although I will say, when I was a caregiver, I went in a clients house that I’d never gone to. It was a husband and wife but I just watched over the wife. When I walked in, I immediately saw an African gray and a cockatiel. I thought they were cute. As I was looking at them(not thoroughly)The husband told me that the cockatiel was acting weird but the vet said it was ok. When the husband left, I went over to look at the cute birds. When I started talking to the cockatiel, I notice his beak was digging or almost digging into his chest. He was “acting weird” because he was laying the side of his cheek flat on the bottom of the cage and was trying to eat. I got very emotional. It bothered me the rest of my shift. I did notify my work and they said that they’d look into it. IM SURE THEY DIDNT. Needless to say, I never went back to the clients house again
