I think it was a cockatiel that started the RUMOR that they were much easier to care for than dogs! Afterall, dogs cannot fit into the smallest of places, let alone fly. No part of your home is truly out of the reach of Neil.

Still less expensive than dogs, which require like 180 dollars in medicines every few months
@ArmyForTheAnimals19 сағат бұрын
@@eeveeofalltrades4780Only less expensive if they don't get sick/need vet care. My Goffin's cockatoo ended up being egg bound. It cost $3400 to keep her overnight at the ER and remove the egg. That didn't include the regular vet visit the week before when she was bleeding out her bum. She ended up passing away within 4 days after her surgery. Also, my friend at the parrot rescue we volunteer for has a conure that cost a couple of thousand to figure out why her leg was hurting. When birds need vet care, it is not cheap!

We had cockatiels in my family, and they are HELLIONS! At the last small apartment we’ve lived in, they got their beaks on almost anything and everything: wallpaper, dad’s box of checks, the corner of bird grit, the blinds, a VHS case (I borrowed a friend’s tape to watch at home, neither of us knew he’d do that!), one even tried to chew through one of the PlayStation controller cables! Still worked but it’s an annoyance that he did it! But we still loved our cockatiels in the end.😂

Buddy would get into the smallest openings. At first I was anxious. I didn’t want him to get hurt. After a while I realized that Buddy is going to be Buddy. He always came to me. He's absolutely adorable! He's so much like my Quaker Parrot. I drink my coffee from a travel mug because one of my dogs used to drink from my mug, but he tries to drink from any open cup I have. I'll ask him if he wants a "nana" and he'll bob his head yes, then he'll fly across the room to my head, rappel headfirst down the side using my hair to get to my shoulder. Then I have to hold the peeled banana towards him as I walk back to the chair so he can start eating it. It's his favorite along with sugar snap peas.

We once had a cockatiel that was given to us by a friend. He had the run of the house just like this little fellow, and he absolutely loved my wife and the kids. However, he was very protective toward them, and was very jealous of anyone else that got close to them. He disliked me to the point that he would hide in the pantry, or behind the fridge, and fly out to attack me if I went near the kids, or embraced my wife. At first it was funny, but his behaviour became so bad we had to find another home for him. Luckily the old gentleman next door, whose wife had recently passed, accommodated him, and they became inseparable partners. We did get another bird from a breeder, and this little parrot was ours for a good number of years until he passed away.
