yeah that's surprising cause some parrots when getting stressed will plucked their feathers..

My sulphur crested came plugged. There was no single feather on his wings. The chest was completely naked. The former owner clipped The flight feathers. He moved in the 31.05.2023. After some weeks, The chest startet closing with feathers and the wing feathers came back. By september He already looked beautiful. He trained his wings, hanging upside down from his swing. And now he can fly from one end of the couch to the other, without flight feathers. Amazing, how fast they can recover. This Lady here dud such a good job. Love to see these two together❤
@lilaclizard4504 Жыл бұрын
Yeh, I'm surprised no plucking too, plus so confident with things that are often scary to abused birds. My rescues HATE showers, blow driers etc etc, they do love bathing, but only on their own terms with a bath provided that they can choose to get in or out of, even misting with water freaks mine out, let alone the shower. Blow drier same thing, even if I hold it where they can choose in or out of it, they don't want to have it on them. Doobie's special :)
@lilaclizard4504 Жыл бұрын
@@azariah333 that's awesome :) Just so people know, it depends on how long they've plucked for as to if the feathers grow back or not. It's a bit like waxing our hairs, if you rip them out from the roots over & over & over again, eventually they no longer grow back. If you only do it a handful of times though, they often will grow back over time, does vary from person to person too as to if feathers/hairs grow back after root pulling out

I knew birds could mimic sounds, repeating words and even phrases. But I never saw one that could copy ACTIONS, like how their human blow dries her hair. Doobie is a born entertainer!

yeh, they do it a lot, all birds too, not just parrots, it's been studied extensively as the ability to learn by watching is considered a sign of high intelligence. I think the first study on this was in pigeons, where they locked some in cages while teaching others how to use a complex food system where the ones in the cages could watch & as soon as they let the ones in the cages try it, they immediately did the right thing, no new learning curve like the first birds had, cause they had learnt by watching the first ones learning to use it. Cockatoos in Australia are causing some problems with this now too, since they are learning from each other how to open wheelie bins to access food scraps. Birds in different areas all do it in different ways cause one figures it out & the rest learn by watching, while in other unrelated flocks, the first to figure it out will potentially figure out a different system of opening it & so that's what the rest learn to do in that area & so on

No cage is big enough for self determined sentient minded creatures need the opportunity of habitat and natural resources the Earth used to offer before the 21st century. Apartment living is like us in captivity in an aviary which is better than jail.

To the owner…. Please don’t think he will never fly! We adopted a sulphar crested cockatoo who was kept in a small cage for her first 34 years. We treat her exactly the same as you do doobie. 3 years we have had her. we let her walk outside …..Well! Wild cockatoos flying over our property scared her and she flew! Up to our homes roof height and to the top of a high gum tree. My partner got her back down. So please don’t assume he can’t fly. Our girl flew but her landing was terrible 😂

Make sure you look at their needs in detail AND life expectancy, especially if you get a young bird. Cockatoos can live 80-100 years, so unless you're getting an older rescue bird, that's a LONG time to be caring for one. Really important to research well, cause they really don't do well with multiple homes through their lives. There are species with shorter life expectancies though, 10-30 years only in some cases, or you can rescue one that's already "old" if you don't want such a long commitment They are wonderful pets for the right person, just be sure you research & get one (or more) that suit your lifestyle & commitment levels though

@@garyk1334 Absolutely! A cage is necessary to have so that a bird has a safe space to stay in just in case. But definitely not 24/7! They need movement just like all animals and we do❤🦜
@lilaclizard4504 Жыл бұрын
@@CuddleBuddiesChannel agreed! A cage is their bedroom or apartment. We all got to see in the pandemic what it's like to be stuck in our apartments 24/7 for weeks, I couldn't imagine being stuck in it for 20+ years! Birds absolutely need to be able to leave their cage & explore a larger area & have social interactions & mental stimulation. So sad the number of people who don't realise this or realise just how intelligent & emotional parrots really are. Glad your channel educates people on this (which it does really well by providing stories people will enjoy watching & subtly reaching those people with that info of what they COULD have with their pet too if they tried to get it)

Sulphur Crested Cockatoos are hilarious. I see them every day in the park across the road from me. They’ve been feeding in my pear tree this week too. Sulphur Crests mate for life so I love watching them waddling along with their partners. They can live to be 100. 🇦🇺They are native to Australia.
@lilaclizard4504 Жыл бұрын
This one's actually a smaller species, I think a citron crested from Indonesia. Most cockies overseas tend to be Indonesian species, cause we have really strong poaching protections for our animals in Australia & really harsh penalities for those caught, so poachers tend to target Indonesia instead, where there's less chance of being caught or properly punished for their despicable crimes. Almost, if not all Indonesian species are endangered cause of the pet trade. Pretty different to the massive flocks of wild ones we have here isn't it!
