also you get desensitized sometimes. My friend had to live in an apartment that was infested with the tiny ones that get really bad. He had no choice, couldn't afford to move, sprayed and treated but it was a duplex apartment, so they just kept coming from a neighbor who refused to treat theirs. At a point he was just desensitized, and so was I. We'd sit on his bed playing playstation while these things crawled all over the walls and floor, sometimes they dropped onto us from the ceiling and we'd jump up to shake them off. Sometimes we'd see them crawling inside the TV screen and couldn't get them off and had to just ignore it. Sitting on his toilet you had to pick up your feet so they won't try to climb on you. He cleaned constantly and all food was in the fridge or freezer at all times, but because the owners wouldn't actually treat anything he was stuck with it and had to just not let it own his attitude and life. Thankfully he lives in a nicer place now.

as a gardener I can tell you if you plant a bunch of common herbs all around the edges of your buildings/patios/walkways where you don't want roaches, mosquitos, ticks, ect. herbs like rosemary, lavender (a personal best for repelling mosquitos), mint, chamomile and a few others. they absolutely work to repel a ton of pest creatures plus you can have great ingredients fresh for the house once they are established. but be careful with mint it spreads like mad. if you plant mint plant it in concrete raised beds so it doesn't take over the area. lavender and rosemary are slow growing and take time to establish unless you buy larger plants to start.

I wouldn't be able to be in that room at all I have a fear of bugs on me and stepping on them. I grew up as a kid on a farm in the country, the kitchen would look worse then that if you turned the lights off at our place. The pest guys would be baffled because no matter what they could never get rid of them. Eventually one showed up that showed you could never get rid of them where we lived, because the earth itself was infested with them, you could walk 100 yards in any direction dig, and find roaches in the soil. Joe's apartment was a novice class roach home.
