This is pretty much unedited. We ran around the UK's hacker camp with a DJI Osmo. It's rough and ready, but it works. This is EMF Camp 2016. More at emfcamp.org MATT: / unnamedculprit | TOM: / tomscottgo

Hi guys, I was the Blacksmith you went running past to ogle the 'flame pong' at 9.07. Myself and the crew have been at every EMF Festival with the 'Urban Crafts Foundation' running a mobile forge workshop since the first in 2012, (where I was ambushed for a piece to camera by a chap from Aunty Beeb) and we've been asked to come back for 2020, which is fantastic. I love being able to bring a team of heritage craftspeople to a festival full of tech heads, the love and interest we get considering how different our skill sets are is amazing. It's almost as if either everyone's twigged we're the best people to know come the zombie apocalypse or makers all just enjoy being around other makers. I know I do :D

Would have been an idea to stream it on twitch (takes a bit of bodging to do it on mobile) but they dont flag live content for copyright & on the VOD system they would have just muted parts if you did get flagged.

Surely you are reporting a live event... Surely that falls under fair use? No news agency in the world would bother muting audio when doing a reportage about a live event.

I've been attending maker faires in the US for years and at this point they're almost entirely startups and corporate booths advertising the same things I've been seeing for the past 3 faires. It used to be all hackerspaces and bizarre projects done just because they could be. I'd love to go to EMF someday, as it seems to embody the spirit that I always loved from Maker faires. Thanks for sharing, M+T!

Regarding what sort of camp this is, when you were describing it at the beginning: as an American, I would call that Renaissance Fair(e) format. Booths tents for exhibits, and field tent sleeping for people who want to stay over all weekend, is the same as a Renaissance Fair. Which is symbolically pretty great, since EMF and the Ren Fair are both celebrating times of accelerated technological advancement. Something about a serious-bandwidth-wifi-enabled grassy tent-covered field really makes me smile.

@fablungo8 жыл бұрын
None of the parts you said you would mute are muted? To me that are pretty clear fair use... But why didn't you mute? Or will you mute those sections only if you do get copyright claims?
@mattandtom8 жыл бұрын
+Fabrizio Lungo if KZbin gives you a Content ID strike, one of the options can be "remove the song", which does some magic to it! We haven't needed to so far, though.
@fablungo8 жыл бұрын
+Matt and Tom thanks for the reply. That seems like a better way of doing it rather than potentially over censoring yourself, just to avoid a copyright claim that may not even happen. Keep up the great videos :)

That's neat. How is the power supplied for the Routers etc.? From the Mains or Generators?
@mattandtom8 жыл бұрын
Generators! There's a dashboard accessible from the internal network with an almost-obsessive amount of stats about the power network, wifi network, and everything. It even has "background radiation" as a stat, and I'd bet they're actually measuring that. -- Tom
@kairon1568 жыл бұрын
I would have gone with solar power but I do understand generators are most likely less hassle than setting up a large area for solar power and batteries.
@Outfrost8 жыл бұрын
They would have to borrow a few times as much land as the festival takes up just to set up the photovoltaic panels.

+kairon156 There's also the fact that although it was a lovely warm weekend, as a rule the UK is not that consistently sunny...

Also, probably not enough output from a solar panel, to be honest. Depends on how much they're running. Also, needs to run at night as well.
