yep me too - one of my guilty pleasures. I was like 16 or 17 when this came out and I've always had a bit of a nostalgic soft spot for this movie despite what the critics may say. Bryan Brown had some cracking lines in it !

Such a great movie. One of the best from the 80s, even with that ending. This was supposed to be a much darker film, but the studio had to intervene. Still entertaining AF and better than a majority of movies in theaters today.

That's too bad. I think the ending really undercut the whole movie. I didn't know they were forced by the studio to do it... But now it makes perfect sense.

@@frankwhite9170 Brian (Tom Cruise) was supposed to commit suicide, like Doug. I agree that this was probably too dark-but I think a more modest and humbling end for Brian than the one we got would have made a lot more sense. Incidentally, the movie is based on a book called Cocktail by Heywood Gould, but the book has Tom Cruise on the cover so I'm not sure if they are still selling the original, or if they changed it to match the movie.

bit strange seeing future Beverley Hills 90210 star James Eckhouse basically playing an extra in this movie (2:50 guy in blue shirt).
