How handy that I just happen to have all three ingredients on hand. Serendipity.

I love art history, and I love the generosity shown in posting these videos. At the same time, something that frustrates me is when art historians describe images inaccurately. In this image I see that only one of Andromeda's ankles is shackled, and yet in this video we are told that she has "shackles and chains still attached to her wrists and ankles" - ankles, plural, which is wrong. Plus we can only see one of her wrists. This bewilders me. It seems like the opposite of an invitation to look closely at a work of art. I remember seeing the same thing when I read Irwin Panofsky inaccurately describing an image of St Jerome. He said Saint Jerome had his hand on the lion's head, when St Jerome's hand was actually next to the lion's head in the image being described. It seems to me that this often happens with art historians. I really find it bewildering.

The most amazing Tiepolo I've seen is the huge ceiling frescoe at the Wurzburg Residenz, which survived WWII bombings unlike the Milan palace. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and want to see a full-scale Tiepolo frescoe, painted about a decade after the one destroyed in Milan. Plus you get to see the baroque architect Balthasar Neumann's famous staircase at the Residenz.

Before COVID, I had no idea this collection existed, but I’m now a devoted fan, with thanks to this series. I’m not sure if I’ll ever see it in real life, but I know that I’ll certainly try!

And perhaps if the Italians had not supported Hitler and handed over their Jews some of whose families went back a,thousand years, the Allies might not have had to do as much bombing.

@@LindaLinda80Linda I am British and I love Tiepolo more than any almost other artist, but let's not forget that the reason the Royal Air Force was bombing Italy was because Mussolini supported Hitler's aim to turn Europe into a Fascist superstate. I value freedom.
