Cocteau Twins started out as a post-punk/goth rock band and this album is where that style meets the dream pop they would go on to make. I would love to see you react to more of their stuff, their entire discography is honestly near flawless.

Personally my favorite Cocteau Twins records are the first two, Garlands and Head Over Heels. Especially the dark post-punk of Garlands. Also the Sunburst And Snowblind ep, don't sleep on the eps! They are as high quality as the albums, and the Twins put out a bunch of them. For the next group, I would recommend some 4AD goth like Bauhaus, the Birthday Party, or This Mortal Coil.

Treasure and Heaven Or Las Vegas are my two fav Cocteau Twins albums. Treasure is definitely a little more Goth and dark feeling. Gorgeous music.

Next CT album? Hard to go wrong… Treasure feels like the first misty, rainy morning of fall to me. But Victorialand? The rustling of leaves as you hike a trail that becomes an ethereal fairy realm, where feeling lost has never felt so found.

This one's a grower, trust me. Not only my favorite from theirs but also one of my favorites from the 80s as a whole. And that is saying a lot.

Judging by how you reacted to some of my favorite albums ("Disintegration" and "Meat is Murder"), I suggest that you check out the Cocteau Twins' second album "Head over Heels" next. It catches them right at that sweet spot, where they smoothed out the rough edges of their first album, but didn't totally succumb to the sweet bubblegum shoegaze fog of their later works (and I don't mean that in a disrespctful way - I love "Treasure" and "Blue Bell Knoll" and "Heaven or Las Vegas"). I am pretty certain that "Head over Heels is right up your alley. It might even blow you away. It's been on my "Top 10 favorite albums ever"-list since I first listened to it. Give it a try!

I had "Amelia" stuck in my head all morning, and it's not like you can search Cocteau Twins songs by lyrics, so I had to comb through their entire discography to find it. Now I'm watching this with a warm mocha and snow falling outside the window, and it's just perfect vibes for this album.

19:21 if youre looking for dream pop alligned cocteau before heaven, i think blue bell knoll, which is right before heaven, is like, where it starts to take form proper, theres inklings of it earlier but its more of their gothic sound in earlier albums (which are all great and end up doing their own think on top of that (ie: victorialand being a more ambienty, slow moving album) but if youre looking for more dream pop cocteau, their last two recorsds, 40 calender cafe and milk and kisses are great options

I don't gotta say anything else. The album is the first 12 tracks of the compilation that's on Spotify btw, but you should also check out the Take On Me cover that's directly after the album in the tracklist, it's awesome) Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton (GORGEOUS unique sounding early 90s shoegaze, sounds like mbv, pavement, guided by voices with twee pop mixed in, so awesome, better than Loveless imo) Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (Unique folk-punk, early 80s college/alt rock, very catchy) Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque (Really catchy power pop, slightly shoegazey, same label as The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine) Quasi - Featuring "Birds" (Awesome Built to Spill-esque/Pacific Northwest indie rock, same label as Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Duster etc) The Breeders - Pod (Unique early 90s alt rock, Steve Albini prod, was in Kurt Cobain's top 3 albums of all time) Slint - Tweez (Sick late 80s post-hardcore/math rock, also Steve Albini prod) Pinback - Pinback (Very chill and creative late 90s indie rock) Modest Mouse - This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (Amazing album, basically as good as The Lonesome Crowded West) The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land (badass big-beat dance music) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (lovely 90's lo-fi) Hella - Hold Your Horse Is (Math Rock with the drummer from Death Grips, before he was in Death Grips) Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (Absolutely perfect 90's indie rock album)

Heaven and Las Vegas is more consistent
@nothingreally66803 ай бұрын
Heaven or Las Vegas has too many mediocre tracks, and the highs lack the otherworldly atmosphere of the early albums. It has no aesthetic and seems to benefit from people hearing it first and thus having little to compare it to, so it can be heralded for its pop hooks. I don't think any of it holds a candle to Sugar Hiccup. I just don't feel anything listening to HoLV, it just feels like songs.
@returns81083 ай бұрын
@@Jonathan-jc4ef not for me, the only track on Treasure that isn't great is Cicely, and maybe Otterley, everything else is phenomenal. And these two tracks are still good like 7/10 or 8/10, so no misses for me
@returns81083 ай бұрын
@@nothingreally6680 I agree. The richness of the atmosphere, all of the little details of Treasure and Head Over Heels are missing on HOLV, there is nothing on that album which transports you to another world, it's just super pleasant music, but there is not much depth to it, they were just trying to make the perfect pop song, which is fine, but it's not interesting for a whole album

day 2 of asking you to react to untilted by autechre until you eventually do it the album is very beat heavy and doesn't focus too much on the melodies but they are still prevalent and even really stunning and quite memorable at times about the beats, they are often a bit harsh and metallic but structured in such a perfect, calculated and controlled way that even at times where to newer listeners it may sound like chaos, if you listen close enough and really analyse, you'll find some of the coolest drum programming you may ever hear I think its best for you to listen to the details of the songs to get the most out of them, especially when you aren't the most familiar with autechre safe to say, this is my favorite album for many of the reasons i stated above and I'd really like to see your reaction to this unrecognized IDM masterpiece
