A two arm lapel grab is a scary situation. However, if you get caught off guard and end up in that situation, you will be able to sense when your attacker is about to strike you as your hands will be in contact with his. Therefore, this gives you the opportunity to hit in a preemptive manner.
Thanks to the position of your hands, you can easily trap your opponent's arms and strike to escape a fight. Keep in mind that the two arm lapel gives you the opportunity to feel the moment your opponent moves, whether to trap you or move back.
The position of your hands gives you the advantage of knowing how to react. You need to react quickly and finish the threat as soon as you can.

Good hand coverage. Perhaps you might add something about counters if he tries a knee to the groin?

You can in addition to blocking his incoming arm, also trap the hand still holding you.

Would the trap and strike method be as affective if the attack wasn't wearing a long sleeve top
@jorge28624
@jorge28624 8 жыл бұрын
+Justin Smith Yes, thought your striking power do not depend of grabbing an sleeve of the attacker

How come you use right open palm strike instead of fist?

+Nabil Al-Kari I actually strike an old man that was trying to steal from me with complicity of other three (or four, I don't remember well that detail) right in the face with my fist. He was very close to me and my strike aimed to the center of the face thought, so my knuckles weren't affected. Is a thing of tastes anyway, isn't?

+Jorge Araya Navarro Its not gonna immeidtly crush your knukkles but with time its ganna effect especially if your doing a sport that makes you use them, and if your not sure check Nick's videos, he explain it well better than me :)

Great question. Here's why we prefer using a palm strike over a closed fist punch. See the video on why you shouldn't punch in a street fight: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4KpaWiFmMppr8k Take care and stay safe.

So Nick, how about dealing with someone that can throw you with technique, like Judo? Would that be enough?
@jorge28624
@jorge28624 8 жыл бұрын
+Claudio Rubens Judoka here. You need to either punch back quickly or use any blocking movement previously trained by you otherwise you'll hit the ground really hard.

+Jorge Araya Navarro what about going into a low jigotai posture, and then strike from there? Would knees to the groin work?

***** Anything, according to the situation, can do the work. I, as a judoka, wouldn't try to project anybody without first making sure the person wouldn't try anything to counter my intentions.

You guys realize that most of what you do has been around since the 50's in the form of Ed Parker's American Kenpo? This particular scenario/attack is covered in one of our Purple Belt techniques, it's call Twin Kimono.
