If you ever face a taller attacker on the streets, you need to be smart about your next move. Taller attackers can be very dangerous. You need to know what you are doing. The issue with being faced with a taller opponent is that he has quite a lot of range compared to you.
The most effective strike is a head butt against this type of opponent. Since he is so much taller, all you really need to do is hit him using your head. There is no need to position yourself and go through all that hassle.
There's even a trick of doing this move and having the element of surprise against your opponent. If you look away, while still maintaining a passive stance and avoid eye contact, he will not be expecting you to hit him back. This gives you the perfect opportunity to strike him as fast and quickly as possible!
While head butting your attacker, you can even move forward and hit the remainder of his facial area or around him, and try to escape the situation. This is a very effective strike against a taller opponent.

Ok Nick but if you miss and you step back you have to fight him.. i will use kicks to the knee to keep him away but when you launch attack what to do if he leans back ? many many fights are like that .. they lean back and boom the counter
