CORRECTIONS: - Deceptors Soul Link isn't once per game, it's potentially each command phase if you want it. My error there! - Warmasters Gift is critical wounds on a 5+ (I thought hits). Could be ok for a daemon hammer, but not super exciting. Let me know if I've missed anything else, I'm sure there'll be a few bits in a book this big.

I'm a bit confused after seeing the Obliterators slide in your video and reading about the range nerf in the Goonhammer codex review. How can't Obliterators get the melta bonus damage out of deep strike? Deep strike allows a unit to come onto the board within 9" of enemy units which would be half the now 18" range of the Obliterators melta profile. Does this have more to do with a desire to keep Obliterators further back from the enemy lines rather than an actual restriction to getting melta damage out of deep strike?

I'm probably gonna be one of the three people who is going to miss it but I'm sad the Exalted Champ's gone. I've had a character model I've been running one as ever since the edition started and I love the secondary buffs it usually gave for chosen bombs. My pre-book list for example had both a lord and a champ running with 10 chosen, undivided with the liber hereticus. Just an absolute delete button when I needed it.

I think the Red Corsairs detachment is arguably the best. The amount of synergies it has with basically everything within the dex is immense. -3 Warp Talons for one, Reaver's Haste (+1 to charge objective targets). The fact it has it's own armour of contempt. Or Dark Pacted Terminators with a Sorc leading it, -2 bolters essentially, re-rolling hits, re-rolling charges and +1 for Reaver's Haste. Pair that up with 1 or two Reaper Autocannons for -3!

The cultist thing is a shame, and it's disappointing they didn't get a reinforcements strategy, since armies that use a lot of suicide units really need them. You can certainly do some interesting things with characters buffing Accursed Cultists, but I have a horrible feeling it'll still work out too pricey to really work. I feel like the Lord of Skulls in Soulforged is going to be pretty scary, it's pretty tricky to ignore or screen something with that many guns which will usually be hitting on 2+ if he's got a Warpsmith in tow. The free counter-offensive on Defilers is going to make people sit up and take notice too, it's already something you'd be a bit wary to tangle with in melee but now you've really got to mean it or you're going to get slapped very, very hard. The free Overwatch from the Traitor Enforcer if he shoots someone in his own squad gets my vote for most baffling change in the book. It might be quite useful, but it makes sod all sense.

the heavy stubber and grenade launcher is still in the kit that sells the firebrand dude. as are the autoguns. this change makes zero sense. and my salt is definitely not influenced by the fact I just bought a 20 (now locked to melee) strong unit. another codex i'll be disregarding. thanks, gw

@timunderbakke8756 I miss old GW where they even used told people to use other miniature they sold to represent something. When the first lost and the damned list came out they told people to buy the old cadian models and mix them with the chaos sprue to make mutants, or mix them with an ork Boyz box. How hard is it to sell a chaos sprue that could be used with the new cadian box? Apparently very for GW.

Just a quick heads up for Element Games in the UK for pre orders of battleforce boxes is that due to limited stock online pre orders will not happen, just like the Custodies Orks battleforce sets. I do want to add, Predator Destructors in Raiders detachment can have some pretty insane infantry clear ability off objectives. If you take heavy bolters and the main gun, they're hitting infantry at AP-3 on objectives and with assault they can easily get into positions to hit them hard. Onto things like Custodes and terminators in cover you're either forcing CP or just putting them straight on their invulns. If you wanted to be really nasty and delete a large unit of marines off an objective you could pair a Termi sorcerer for AP-4 heavy bolters and autocannons xD tell me that doesn't sound like a bit of fun!

Vashtorr+helbrute+3 venomcrawlers in soulforge detachment sounds fun! 12 shots at S7 will have venomcrawlers wounding T12 vehicles on 4s and with the double dark pact ability on the helbrute that could do serious damage to vehicles.

I think you didn't get both buffs from soulforge dark pact. Normal dark pact and you get sustained or lethal hits, when contracted you get +1 to wound on range or +2 melee attacks

For the Mortal Thralls strategem in the Chaos Cult detachment, it says Heretic Astartes unit, which means you could use it to soak up anti-tank fire shooting your Land Raider, Lord of Skulls or something else worth a lot!

Have a cultist mob designated to follow around something like a daemon prince with wings, advance and keep up with it using the desperate pacts until you get the prince into a position to fly charge a high value target. If any cultists are left use them like the chaff they are to tarpit anything that might try to charge the prince , I love it

I am actually saddened with the removal of the Exalted Champion. I have fallen in love with the model during the Index since I could squad it up with a Chaos Lord and Chosen unit. The whole unit would just become a big blender of attacks. While it won't change much in the blender, it's still a piece that's now missing.

@lohikaarmeherra-1753 Auspex Tactics mentions on multiple occasions in the video X uni has had a rules change, nerfed and will need a points change to compensate. CSM should be a pts expensive army with scary rules to match. I agree that the detactments are far better than the loyalist ones. So, the CSM units should be costed in a manner where 1 CSM unit is equal to 1.5 up to 2 SM units and have the rules to match that value.

That dread talons detachment is sad. They could have done some cool stuff with it like if your going to make it a battleshock detachment (which sucks) you could have made the effects at least useful. They could have made some strategems that prevented movement, lowered ballistic or weapon skill and a number of other things that represent fear and terror but instead we get “jump through hoops to get a mediocre effect” that other detachments get for less

I like a lot of the rules, but I'm still frustrated with the loss of autoguns on cultists. They were still selling the BSF kit last edition and half of my Dark Vengeance cultists are useless. Other wargear changes are also pretty bizarre, the new Chaos Lord is weirdly limited with his options and gets no benefits for picking up the power fist (unlike Gravis Captain who gets extra attacks) and can't take a simple bolt pistol.

Congrats, your cultists have evolved into Traitor Guard. You still have a datasheet to run those models with. And now Cultists are easier to buy and model for literally everyone who hasnt picked up a horde of them. Cultist modeling was in a really weird place, cause they really wanted to run 3x special weapons per 10, but those special weapons weren't actually sold. But for 5 point chaff models, it wasn't worth the effort to bits source and kitbash. Blackstone Cultists were also solid in squads of 7, really awkward to buy for the purpose of tabletop play.

Cultists did not get "easier to buy", buying cultists is exactly as difficult now as it was before the new codex, what's "easier" is for people to be meta chasers, that's it. ​@@TRENCHESandTREADS If I buy a box off the shelf, I want to be able to use it optimally as of time of purchase, and I want to have all of the options that unit can run. I don't have any desire to need to buy two to three more boxes or second hand bits purchases, after I already bought an overpriced sheet or two of plastic. Sorry your kitbashes got squished, but this change makes the tabletop easier to get into for everyone else who wants to buy into Cultists from here on out. With models having a singular pricetag, their points costs are reflecting the optimal loadout of that model. There has been 0 incentive at all to run melee and autopistols compared to autoguns+specials for the entire edition (hell, in this weird pre-codex interm period, massed gun cultists with mark of Tzeentch seems pretty optimal as an army build), and you'd be basically just nerfing your army's capacity by opting into running the melee cultists right out of the box. 40k is an absurdly hard game to get into, in terms of logistics, artistic skill, army building stratagy, tabletop stratagy, etc. GW doesn't need to make it artificially harder by telling players to pound sand and run a shit loadout if they aren't willing to shell out more money for more kits and bits.

Autogun and ranged cultists have been available for years from GW, the fact that GW wasn't selling them now is their problem (and yours apparently). Their is no 'optimal' requirement, nor should their be, and this is the exact kind of attitude that saw options being removed all over the place because they didn't 'fit' in the box. Ridiculous.

Cultist mobs losing their ranged weapons is a huge pain and very disappointing. I personally have about about 40 of them but I know there are people out there with 100+ GW plastic cultist models. They decided to put out an extremely lazy cultist box with no options and now we're all stuck with it.

I like soul link to combo with a normal lord and a twin lightning claw characters, can boost the other character up to 8 attacks at s6 ap3 d2 with twin linked. Could go insane and stack the claw with that for ap4

They should've gone further on the Night Lords Detachment, something like "instant global battle-shock for two turns". Your opponent playing without any stratagems or objective-scoring units for a while would actually be a big deal.

I guess between not having a model, and the bustedness that could be Exalted Champion with his ability to gain strength seemingly stacking with the talisman enhancement that also boosts strength, i guess the felt the potential for strength 11 on a character that could advance and charge if attached to chosen and do significant damage was a bit too much to balance. Assuming it's cheap, using Soul Link to give a Master of Executions the Chaos Lord's datasheet abilities could be good. The big charge and rerolls battle tactics seem useful on him, and getting to have a 6/+2/8/-3/3 attack profile with Precision, Dev Wounds and (presumably) Sustained Hits 1 is pretty scary into most things.

Soul link on a MoE and having a terminator sorcerer on the board let’s you get warp time on units you normally wouldn’t be able to plus access to death hex if your terminator sorcerer hasn’t used it, seems interesting

I don't think you mentioned that the Iron Warriors detachment also only works on shooting. 42:19 Gotta be careful as you can't rely on that ability when going toe-to-toe with enemy melee specialists.

Looks overall great, but I already see the big nerf-hammer, because some detachments looking so strong with certain units and some tournament idiots WILL abuse the shit out of them. And in the end, the nerfs will hurt casual players with fun and fluffy lists the most and will make already weaker detachments and lists even weaker. GW had the chance to make Night Lords a strong and scary army, especially with the new Jump Lord, but they didn't. Sry, but 1CP to gain -1AP for melee only and the unit have to be low or battleshocked, but Raiders getting free -1AP for all sources when enemys are on objectives + always assault? Whats the point to play Dread Talons?

I have to say - GW really have done a reasonable job with the detachments here - fluffy but flexible, and they’re mostly viable for most armies, I would have thought. Some of the things like the Iron Warriors and Alpha legion stratagems are fluffy and fun without being game breaking. Shame about the cultist mob losing its special weapons (feels a bit mean but you do have the Traitor Guard if you want special weapon spam)… This genuinely is a mostly “feels good” codex, I would have thought.

My only concerns for the alpha legion is lack of unit stealth and CP generation. I would have to play it but it certainly looks fun to play with.

Fantastic video, can't wait for the new codex to drop! Wanted to ask about a possible Deceptors combo. If you take a Sorcerer lord in Terminator armor with Shroud of Obfuscation and then take a Chaos lord in Terminator armor with Soul Link, does that mean you can keep the Sorcerer in reserve (safe and sound) and not only use his Death Hex ability with your Chaos Lord but also give a Terminator squad Stealth for extra defense?

GW have already shown they can add new detachments outside of codexes with the drukhari one… so it’s entirely possible they are holding a few back to sell them later in white dwarf or a psychic awakening style release (especially as bile is still there, so the CoB are still core CSM and not EC or getting their own codex)

No, unless you're running plague marines or rubric marines in a CSM list. It's possible that these rules might give us a preview on what the DG, TS, WE, and (hopefully) EC codexes will look like, but I can't say.

With the warp charged engines, doesn't a landraider have assault ramp so you could push it up early and chuck out a unit of termies for an early charge.

Assault ranp is normal move only, so not on the advance. Still great though, possessed with a mop able to be absolutely awful in terms of charging pressure now, without the need for mark of slaanesh now

Thanks for making this video! So a Legionary can't take a Plasma Gun now? My squads came from the Shadowspear box so I've got some of those. And it's fun to hear you repeatedly talk about "this damned unit." I doubt that detachment is the best but is really seems fun.

The weird restrictions on the Chaos Lord's Wargear is frustrating. Why can't I give them a Bolt Pistol? Or a Combi-Weapon? Or a Power Fist with any kind of ranged weapon? I still have a Chaos Lord with a Power Fist and Combi-Weapon; what do I do if I want to run him again?

I'd like to see a video on how to properly utilize infiltrate in honor of the deceptors detachment. I get that I want to get on objectives early and screen, but I thought you were supposed to deploy assuming you go second and hide your entire army, so I'm not sure where to put my units that are almost guaranteed to be shot and charged turn one in no man's land. Extra confusing in the context of my Eldar Rangers who are snipers who want to stay far out of harms way.
