The fact that *this* book is now worthy of Codex Compliant, my first ever purchase aside from White Dwarf in the entire hobby, makes ME feel old so I sympathise somewhat! This was the first codex I ever got back in High School when I started out in 5th. I thought it was radical, with how every unit had it's own lore and unique art; and the large chunks of writing on Ork society and kulture(especially about the bit of the Imperials trying to make sense of certain orky things, like how the hell their vehicles work and how their society functions day-to-day). And yes, I did scream WAAAGH, because the first match I ever played I still remember, mainly because I said something along the lines of "I will be declaring a Waaagh now" and my opponent said "Come on dude, these are Orks! You gotta scream it!" and he proceeded to scream WAAAGH! at the top of his lungs, with everyone else in the store's game room joining in. It was a thunderous noise that I'm sure the rest of the mall heard. Thanks for jogging some good memories Snip and Wob.

Between this and some of the other Ork lore I've been learning, I really want to make an army that's based around the idea of attacking planets with the nicest stuff (furniture, art, etc.) and just trashing it. Smear snotlings on the walls. Food Fights going on in all of the kitchens. And most importantly: putting their dirty, nasty feet on all of the furniture just because they want to cause a ruckus everywhere. It'd be like making Da Choppa's from AoS for 40k. Fun fact in the timeline of this codex the writer, Phill Kelly, makes a covert reference to the Squats in Ghazghkulls lore section. It is in the battle of Golgotha part, (in the old lore Golgotha was a Squat world which at the behest of a Inquisitor Horst send reinforcements to Armageddon. The had been delayed due to Warpstorm and only arrived after the space marines had forced Ghazghkull off the planet and proceeded to hunt down many of his stranded Boyz.) when Yarrick was hunting down Ghazghkull. "Using his Tellyportas to make a series of lightning strikes, Ghazghkull quickly overcame the war engines and battle collossi of the planet's abhuman defenders."

I still have this book and fondly remember confounding most non-Ork players by taking no battlewagons or indeed vehicles of any kind unless they were Deff Dredds. Playing as Snakebites, I rarely bothered with even a mass assault, but usually just split my Boyz mobs into two groups. My favourite tactic being 40 of them ganging up on 10 space marines. Meks were great however. The KFF really gave the boyz a chance of surviving long enough to kill a Daemon Prince or Avatar of Khaine. Lootas however were best used in small numbers or kept right at the back of the board.
