The beastman on page 127 (23:35 in the video) has an inscription in chaos runes on his sword, I remember translating it about 30 years ago. It says "Mary had a little goat and so I cut its fucking throat". The 'fucking' was a bit ornately written and harder to read, but it's there 😁 Always thought that was a cool touch, but then I was 13-14 at the time. Personally I would go with “Ababynim”. It’s still a combination of the two words, but not as obviously, and sounds (in my opinion) very much like a real name a daemon would have. Also, I imagine it’s probably a daemon of Qwhip, chaos god of puns that they created in the previous episode. So I imagine “Ababynim” is it’s true name, while it’s use name is a pun based on baby and abomination, but I’m not clever enough to come up with one.

I like when Chaos has just general unaligned 'deamons' that are nasty beasties of the warp/wastes/realsm. It gives more flavour and diversity. It feels like all deamons being part of a team is fine in gaming terms, but for role-playing or literature or comics or fluff it's nice to have just non-specific monsters (aside from Harpy-stand-ins the Furies)

I also like some interpretation of there are not suppose to be codexes for loyal/traitor 1st founding. The idea of legion is of the past; the infighting, distrust and technological decay over long time make sure it remains a legend. The biggest elephant in the void is actually geneseed stability. Primarch does not only serves as a general, their body is an undying original stable genetical template just so the legionaires can be made amassed. Cases like thousand sons and emperor children are so fundamental unstable, over 10 millennias, to believe harvesting "pure" geneseed from a gene farm is good enough, a pipe dream. I rather love a huge collection of customisation for renegade and loyalists, large amount of mix and match. Because horus heresy happens. That's the consequence of such calamity.

However my response was due to to a previous assertions that they were "never" based in the same universe, which comes off as a bit irritating, because it flies in the face of living memory. To be fair if you got into 40k after 3rd edition you could be excused this error. But I started 40k in 1990. I have the original Rogue Trader on my bookshelf and I definitely remember that in those years and it was sort of taken for granted Warhammer and 40k existed in the same universe. The section in Lost and the Damned is perhaps the most concrete example, but there are many *many* others, buried in early Old White Dwarf Magazines, gaming supplements and shared Iconography which pointed to nod and a wink to inevitable conclusions. I still remember in one of the White Dwarf news section where in a GW store you were invited to bring Warhammer units and see how long the staff's Terminators stranded on the warhammer world could hold off against the hordes. The Only thing that we argued in those days that we could never agree on was if Sigmar was one of the missing Primarch's for which there was only scant detail. Personally I don't bemoan the Canon separation. I think the settings are better for it, as the original Rogue Trader Rules system was compatible with 3rd edition warhammer so that the miniatures could be used interchangeably to maximise playability with a limited minatures range. But the original Lore was a bit all over the place still trying to decide what it wanted to be.

Worth noting since it was brought up that a metal band used the slaves to darkness art for an album cover. While Bolt Thrower's original print of Realm of Chaos used the Rogue Trader art as an album cover, it also uses the exact "Realm of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness" text block that is present on the cover for it's album title text.

@SnipeandWib as someone who is old enough to remember these first coming out I would add a few things. As people have said, there is the cosmic monolith comment in these which shows Fantasy and 40 K were linked. But there were white dwarf star maps showing a mysterious planet surrounded by warp storms which had all races on it. There was a model of a Slaaneshi Champion with a Plasma Pistol in Fantasy which you could get by winning several battles. Sigmar was also explicitly one of the missing primarch's with the primarch capsule being the twin tailed comet landing on the world. For Emps; bear in mind the original GW staff explicitly identified, Conan, HP Lovecraft, Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars as inspiration but they also used historical and mythological characters as well. The shaman taking poison is straight out of Conan but coming from Anatolia and protecting mankind; there was always the assumption Emps was the god Apollo or maybe Gilgamesh. Each god had their sacred number which was used to set the number of men in a squad. I think it was Rick Priestley who also made a comment that the book titles referenced lost names of the 4 main gods. so 'Slaves' 'Darkness' 'Lost' & 'Damned' referred to Slaanesh, Khorne, Nurgle & Tzeentch. Oh and you missed Malal the the anti chaos, chaos god! He only really appears in these books as GW didnt own copyright. They have tried to reinvent him as Malice now

The 3rd edition fantasy rulebook that the fantasy rules in this book are used in. Does specifically state that the warhammer world is in our universe. Never say's at what time. But with the old one's knocking about and shaping the world could be back in the war in heaven days. Maybe the whole warp awakening when the old ones and elder were flinging mind bullets about to much coincides with the polar warp gate collapsing. This also explains the whole the chaos gods already existed before they existed/woke thing that gw like to hint at every so often.

It's fun rewatching the series and realising how much changed since, and how quickly Warhammer moves. After the almost prophetic seeming "two ork characters that wouldn't see another codex after this" are both in the 9th ed one; the Necrons getting yet another phase making the historical record all the more historical, Khorngors coming to Bloodbowl and Slaangors to AoS are an interesting rounding out of the godsworn Beastmen...

The biggest connection I found in this book between 40k and fantasy is that when explaining renegade warbands it is mentioned that fantasy chaos warbands can find 40k technology and fight against the imperium. Page 165: "A Renegade Warband can therefore be assembled using exactly the same procedure already described for chaos warbands. In fact there is no difference between a Chaos Warband and a Renegade Warband other than that the Renegades are equipped with Warhammer 40,000 technology and are able to travel from world to world. It is quite possible for a Chaos Warband to acquire this technology and move out into the galaxy to continue its path of slaughter throughout the Imperium and beyond."

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet re: warhammer/40K connection. Page 77 is explicit "The Warhammer World is bound by storms of magic so that it remains isolated from the other worlds of the human galaxy. It mentions Chaos monoliths on other non imperial worlds, or orbiting worlds transmitting their inscriptions to passing spaceships, the next paragraph mentions Space Hulks.

I don't remember where, but GW did at the time of these books mention that the Warhammer fantasy world is stuck in a warp storm. And there's also Talisman (which is set in the WHFB universe), which with the right expansion could let your characters travel between the two games, and even have your character bring back a bolter. So I think they were intended to be connected, back then, but these days they're of course not, and really, they probably lost their connection somewhere around 2nd edition 40k, with only a few nods to the idea being thrown in here and there (like some magic items that appeared after the Dark Shadows WHFB campaign being very similar to 40k items)

In libre chaotica a warhammer fantasy novel cemented that they are in two different reality referencing both magnus as the red cyclops, abbadon black crusade and noise marines. Even most recent entities like skaven communicating with eldar in end times novels tell us it connected. Another book book (i don't remember it name reply if you know) tell how grey knight kaldor draigo saw a portal in the warp that lead to a world where magic flows like the wind with a god king.

About the worlds being connected: in the late nineties and early 2000s, it was a common belief that the WFB world was simply a planet somewhere in the 40k universe, either an isolated low tech world, or even a playground run by tzeentch in the eye of terror. When the Liber Chaoticas came out, this theory was validated, as the books are written by in-game characters, each one of which succumbs to madness by the end of their respective book. Some of them documented their visions of evil, giant angels that come from the skies and have massive machines of war. The sketches of them looked like chaos space marines and their vehicles.
