In the video we see the Codex Sassoon, also known as Sassoon’s Crown which is one of the oldest and most complete copies of the Hebrew Bible. This manuscript contains all 24 books of the Bible, dating back to the 9th and 10th centuries. It was written in ink on sheepskin, and bound in a leather binding, weighing about 12 kilograms and including 792 pages of written texts. Therefore, the Codex Sassoon is a testament to the rich Jewish life in the Middle East at that time.
The codex has an incredible history, having been passed down through generations, smuggled out of a synagogue to protect it, and purchased by David Sassoon, a collector of Jewish manuscripts. Now, it is part of a final tour before being auctioned by Sotheby's, with a price range estimated between 30 and 50 million dollars, making it possibly the most valuable historical document ever!
