If you want to argue compassion and that he has suffered enough, first of all, where's the compassion for Joe Jackson? Secondly, does Pete Rose deserve compassion? In 1989, Rose accepted a lifetime ban in exchange for MLB to drop the case against him and not release their findings. He then proceeded to lie for over 10 years denying that he bet on baseball. After, he applied for reinstatement and even threatened to sue. Evidence in the form of betting stubs comes out that he bet at least while being a manager. Rose continues to deny betting on baseball until 2004 where he admitted betting as a manager and only as a manager in order to sell a book. Fast forward a few years, a notebook of a former Rose associate, Michael Bertolini, revealed that Rose did bet as a player. Therefore, even though it's unfortunate that the Astros players were given immunity, this case has nothing to do with Rose's case. Rose knew the consequences and did it anyway. He lied about it, showed no remorse and only told the truth to sell a book years later and, even then, he lied about never betting as a player in his book.
