@@ChrisVanVlietso here's your answer about What was supposed to happen? I personally believe rock was going to challenge Roman Reigns to TRIBAL COMBAT and Cody couldn't he's not family so then if Rock won the bloodline would be dismantled the Jimmy and solo wouldn't attack rock cause technically he's still an elder. This would left Cody challenges Roman in a one on one fair match. Possibly at the next? Ven that will be in MSG where Dusty losing it brings it full circle. Oh and think they'll call it the WWE universal era because the fans are finally more on charge of what we're getting.

Subjectively this is how I define an era. Prevailing storylines, WTF/OMG/glued-to-the-screen moments, the rise and success of new stars, a change in the direction of the product, the retirement or passing of a legend. Attitude era 96-2001: Montreal screwjob, DX, austin 3:16, Mike Tyson/Austin, WM14, Austin/McMahon feud, McMahon/Helmsley faction, the rock/triple H feud, the Rock/Austin feud. The invasion storyline. Ruthless aggression era 02-07: The inaugural draft, rock/hogan WM. The rise of John Cena, Orton, Lesnar & batista. The return of hbk, elimination chamber, Benoit, guerrero winning the big one. Jbl smackdown Champion, first ever raw vs smackdown at SS. The deadman. PG era 08-12: hbk/taker WM, triple/taker WM. The rock/Cena. CM Punk best in the world, NXT, nexus, return of Bret hart. The return of brock Lesnar. The historical era 2013-2019: Sting, Ronda Rousey, undertaker wm streak, AJ styles debut, return of kurt angle and Goldberg. Daniel Bryan, Universal title, women’s revolution. Becky Lynch becoming the man and Kofi mania. Also the shield breaking up. Thunder-dome era 2020-2021 Drew McIntyre as champ, the fiend, Randy orton, edge, Alexa bliss, Roman reigns as the tribal chief, the hurt business. Undertaker retiring, firefly funhouse. Wrestlemania becoming a two night extravaganza. The bloodline era 2022-2024 present: Sami joining the bloodline, brock Lesnar Roman reigns summerslam. The judgement day, Vince McMahon leaving, triple H and TKO taking over, Logan Paul. Solo joining bloodline, Cena feuding with bloodline, orton/Rko bro. Clash of the castle. Seth as a workhorse champ. Bayley and damage control, LA KNIGHT, Bray’s passing. Cody finishing his story and the rock finally joining the bloodline.

Just a note Re: the Cody lost last year; Yes, the story is paying off in an amazing way. But there has been a lot of less interesting BL/Cody stuff in past 12 months. I'm not sure patience was needed in regards to WM39. Having said that looking back I'm glad Cody didn't win because we're in line for an amazing climax to this story. But let's not forget some of those subpar periods in 2023. Fantastic discussion and interview as always, Chris.

My journey into wrestling started with KZbin feeding me clips from the A&E Most Wanted Treasures, to watching all the A&E WWE content, then seeing Logan Paul doing crazy moves, and then watching WM39. Casually watched after that, and then watched non stop leading up to a Smackdown in Calgary. Attended that (Jeys last appearance on SD) and have been hooked since! Also, thanks for putting together this interview. Cool to hear insights from a WWE content creator 😊

We are in the Shoot Era of wrestling. The content of promos, the use of social media to start angles and stories, podcasts fully pulling back the curtain, talent jumping to other promotions more frequently. Everything is a worked shoot or a straight shoot. Talent isn't afraid to simply say "I don't like them for real." The pivotal moment(s) were CM Punk returning to wrestling, immediately followed by Cody returning to WWE and the loud opinions that not only came from that, but the wrestling angles (and real life scenarios) that developed due to that short period like "Finish the Story" and the backstage incidents in AEW.
@nomercy4life10 ай бұрын
Can't be considered the "shoot" era with a bunch of thigh slappers
@JetForceFive10 ай бұрын
@nomercy4life The wrestling isn't a shoot, just the business of it. I don't think anyone ever asked Hogan in the 80's if he really didn't like Roddy Piper - a lot of the backstage stuff from the last 40 years has come out in the last 10 years. But today, we know in real time who has a problem with who, contract details, reasons for leaving/firing, etc. It's becoming more rare to hear a promo commenting on something in-story, like "you attacked me last week" and instead there's a lot more references to comments on podcasts and social media posts where it is closer to a shoot than a written angle.

Re: Rock v Roman never being official. I'm also a 'no graphic, no match' guy like Sam mentions at 25:20. EXCEPT, at the Vegas press conference during the entire Rock promo on stage they had the mega graphic of the two facing eachother on the tron! That's arguably produced 'for the segment' and not for actual ticket promos, but it was still a traditional 'face to face' match graphic a-la Rock-Cena 2012 promos.

You’re either delusional or just naive to executives’ inability to say no to the Rock’s ideas regardless of what they already had planned. The tag match literally doesn’t even need to happen Cody could just face Roman and Seth vs Drew and that’s that but Rocky’s contract in joining the board had an obligation for him to wrestle at this year’s mania. This was just the way to get it done as a pivot from Roman vs Rock.

It’s funny how people that either work for or who want access to the WWE, they never admit the real reason as to why wrestling and the WWE is popular again. I can tell you the reason. It’s the reason why me and several friends have come back to it. Chris and Sam won’t admit it or they downplay the real reason in a misdirection. The reason is that Vince is no longer there. They can say that’s not the real reason all they want but you know it, I know it, and everyone else knows it true. Oh it’s true. It’s damn true.
