Lyrics:
Loud thunder, heavy rain
Thin line 'tween joy and pain
It's a long strange trip, it's all insane
You ain't never gonna be the same
Living life through the night
Thin line of a lightning strike
Sometimes the only light
When the moon is tucked away
Pistons pumping
Minds are racing
It's hard to sleep, man
When I'm shaking
Bad news surrounds me
It's always found me
Creeping up when things are good
Yeah, the dark days find a way
Loud thunder, heavy rain
Thin line 'tween joy and pain
It's a long strange trip, it's all insane
You ain't never gonna be the same
Living life through the night
Thin line of a lightning strike
Is sometimes the only light
When the moon is tucked away
The camra captures
All the things that
Make us turn from
What we see
It's always moving
It don't stop rolling
I haven't slept in three damn days
Yeah, but who needs that anyway?
Loud thunder, heavy rain
Thin line 'tween joy and pain
It's a long strange trip, it's all insane
You ain't never gonna be the same
Living life through the night
Thin line of a lightning strike
Is sometimes the only light
When the moon is tucked away
Loud thunder, heavy rain
Thin line 'tween joy and pain
It's a long strange trip, it's all insane
You ain't never gonna be the same
Living life through the night
Thin line of a lightning strike
Is sometimes the only light
When the moon is tucked away
Loud thunder heavy rain
Loud thunder, heavy rain
Thin line 'tween joy and pain
A long strange trip, it's all insane
You ain't never gonna be the same
Loud thunder heavy rain
Loud thunder heavy rain

I will never forget spending three days with my birth mom while she was terminally ill from cancer and dementia. No sleep for three dam days. She loved this song, when I would play it she would "come back" a term that you only understand if you've watched someone get ate up by dementia or Altzheimers. Rest in Peace Momma

Absolutely know what your speaking of mam, went through this with my grandmother and now my mother is in the beginning stage even losing short term memory, it's truly a cruel horrible disease. I'd honestly give my own life for a cure for it. The pain of watching your closest loved ones as you said become a shell of their former self is one of the hardest things in the world.

i love the mainstream success of this song, being used by every base ball player as walk up music, and the he hit my sister bs....and the fact that it was inspired by his young son. But the mark of a great song writer is the hidden symbolism in the lyrics and id have to say 90 percent of the listeners have no clue what this great song is truly about, and they may enjoy it, they will never connect with the real meaning hidden in his words...its ok if you have never lived it you could not understand, but if you have you know exactly what he is talking about....it becomes a part of you, and will always be right there. For those who have lived it and left it behind, keep your up guard, and those who are still sleeping on the ceiling and walking that thin line...may this song help you find another day. Thank You Mr. Jinks

Cody Jinks warmed up for Sturgill Simpson in Kansas City Missouri at a hole in the wall bar I can’t even remember the name of and I brought my brother to the show for his birthday about 5-6 years ago as we were huge Sturgill fans...we left the show thinking this Cody Jinks dude is just as good as Sturgill...saw him after the show guitar case in hand and no one paid him any attention as he waited for a cab for 10 minutes by himself and finally got in one...I kick myself everyday for not going to shake his hand and tell him how awesome his music is!!! I have a friend who owns a bar and tried to book him 3 years ago cost was $75k for the night...congratulations man you made it!!!!

Cody Jinks wow @codyjinks this was absolutely a great Pandora "find." I love country classics and the oldies up to the outlaw 90's style but other than a few (Brantley Gilbert before he went mainstream, Corey Smith, Chris Stapleton, and sadly I must admit Eric Church) I just don't get into much new(er) music of any genre really. --- this came on and with 15 seconds I was scrambling to get my phone out of my jacket pocket and screenshot it and listen to more of you on KZbin! this is my first I've heard and I am venturing to new territory with your music as soon as I post this. GOD I hope they are even half of this one and you will be a miracle find!

Just found this man!! Could listen to this song over and over and drink some beer too. We been having a lot of thunder heavy rain, the God-given kind, down here on the Gulf Coast! Love to play this song while it's raging outside! I don't think the song is talking about rain though. Love Cody Jinks!!

Well see the problem is that country radio doesn't want country anymore. It's all about bro country and pop country. Sadly today's mainstream country has evolved in the wrong direction. There still may be hope if guys like cody and whitey morgan keep getting noticed.

That song is one of those perfect fitting songs that will be redone over and over by many artists in the future, like Bob Segers Turn the Page or any of those rare few generational hits . He struck Texas oil with his son that day they collaborated that up, keep up the great work and stay genuine as can be we need ya out here in the country!

I am going through something right now and I sit and listen to this song over and over bc it describes so perfect how I feel. Sometimes we are on the line between joy and pain and no one understands it really but us. And sometimes the people and things that bring us joy are the ones that can also bring us the most pain. Thank you for writing this song as well as many of the others. I identify with a lot of your songs and I am thankful for a raw pure writer like you that is so real. Thank you.
