Mark, great vid, thanks for uploading! Now that 3 years have passed and you've presumably sailed your nicely equipped rig, we would love to hear an update! How does she sail with the jib? My next comment is a bane to all sailors, and that is I notice that you have lines all over the place. Line management is its own special art, and as a kayak fisherman and bike rider, I would love to see Hobie come out with a spiffy through-hull jib line guidance system -- shoot, put more of them in the hull LOL! I am curious, I was taught to deploy the jib first, and then the mainsail, due to the big power hit vs. control. Inversely, when much less power is needed, then the main gets stowed, and the jib gets trimmed or stowed. Would this sequence be at odds with the need for tension in the jib forestay and slack on the mainsail leading edge? Specifically, it appears that if both sails are deployed and an emergency situation demands rapid and major depowering of the mainsail, then that jib forestay will prevent the furling of the main. Can you speak to that? THANKS IN ADVANCE

I was thinking of having a mast topper custom made for my TI. Who made yours as I would love to get one of them?

@Robert: Do you use the Hobie forum? If you check out: www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=21875&start=120 you will see some comments by me. I am registered as HokMark. If you can send me a PM from a message on the forum giving me your email address, I can give you additional information. That TI jib forum topic has some information as well. In short I had it made locally (Japan) by a company which has indicated willingness to make for others as well. I am not doing it as a business (no profit for me) but would be happy to assist in you getting on if you like.

Mark, I write from Spain, your videos are very interesting and they liked me. I think the key to all the possibilities is the piece that goes on the top of the mast. Could you tell me where I can buy it? Thank you.

You are right. The mast topper is pretty important. Mine is custom made by a local stainless steel company here in Japan. They would charge US$400 to make another. There are home made units too. The Hobie forum and KZbin have ideas. If you want I can send you the CAD drawing if you like. You could likely find a cheaper source.

great video could you make a video of you using the blue splash/spray guard. that would be great. Thanks for all your videos.

Interesting timing. I have had the splash guards on the boat for about a year and today removed them before going out. I have used them only one time as they don't really provide much benefit for the type of boating I do. When I am with my wife, we often have the dog. He hates water splashing on or near him, so we don't take him out in those kinds of conditions. When I am by myself or with a friend and I am in conditions which generate splash, I generally am sitting on the windward haka (bench), not on the boat seat, so the splash is not an issue. The one time I used them, they did prevent quite a bit of splash from hitting us, but for now my focus is on simplification, Less ropes, less messing the better. The jib on the other hand is a winner in the right winds. Set it up every time and unfurl it when the winds allow it. I am redoing the jib control lines as soon as the parts arrive. When I have some time I will make another video of a simplified jib system. I love the boat. Yesterday I went out with a friend. Today was my honey and our dog.
