Almost exactly a 4 year age gap between our daughters as well and it turned out to be perfect. We weren't rushing our toddler out of any gear to give it to the new baby, and because she had already made her transitions to "big girl" things, she felt like a true big sister and didn't have much of an adjustment to sharing us at all. No regression, no tantrums, just adoration of "her baby". They grew up super bonded despite the age gap and as grown women are still the best of friends. I Hope yours are too!

Pediatrician here! So you should always have a pediatrician (or family doc like you had with Genevieve) see your baby when they are born before they leave the hospital. Most ped practices have someone on call to do this, so it might not be your specific doctor, but someone in their practice. If they don’t have privileges at your hospital, then the hospitalist newborn pediatrician will see them prior to sending them home. This is important in case some of their blood values such as bilirubin is elevated or if they have other abnormalities seen on exam such as a heart murmur. Hope this helped :) Love you and your family Jess! You guys have made residency a bit brighter with your videos 💕 Also you add her to your insurance after she is born!

Where I live you have to have a pediatrician lined up and have appointments set up and have that pediatrician check your baby out before you are allowed to leave the hospital.

Yes, where I live & where I practice as a nurse, you must have a pediatrician on file long before the baby is born. Either the chosen pediatrician, one of their practice colleagues, or whoever is on call (the hospitalist) at the time will examine the baby. We also had to have an appointment scheduled with our pediatrician even before we were discharged from the hospital. 💜

This actually warmed my heart. I'm 38 and the oldest of 4 kids. My two sisters will talk here and there but other than that there are no relationships between any of us to speak of - which is extremely sad and heart breaking. I've three siblings and yet I feel like an only child.
@amixeblu

@@Lilithskills This just gets to me. My mom has 9 siblings and they are *this* close, very very close to each other. Even when their mom's house needed selling (partly to pay for her care), there was no discussion, my mom handled it all and they implicitly trusted her (no reason not to, I might add). The bond is that strong. No discussion, no strong words, just agreement on everything. And that is so amazing to have in life. I am almost 50 years old, and an only child, but I truly admire, still do, the bond they all have!

He has surgery again tomorrow and this will be his 3rd surgery in 4 days. If everyone could also please keep him in your prayers it is greatly appreciated. I'm just catching up but a note about baby/insurance/pediatrician (I work on the insurance side of healthcare here in the US) Before you discharge from the hospital, a pediatrician will come check on baby. You typically won't see that same pediatrician after you discharge. As you get ready to discharge from the hospital, the case manager will have you call and schedule an appointment for baby with your pediatrician. As far as insurance, after baby is born you can call your health plan & let them know the date of birth. Usually send a proof of birth document the case manager gives you. The insurance company will retro coverage for that date. So that baby's medical expenses are handled. Babies are also default covered for the 1st 30days under mom's health plan. Gosh that was lengthy, but I hope it helps!! My son turns 2 in a couple weeks and I remember all too well the stress of arranging all those fine details. Best of luck!

My sister and I are 4.5 years apart and my parents originally planned for us to be 2 to 2.5 years apart and my mom has said that she is SO thankful for the way it turned out. By the time I was born my sister was able to actually help with some tasks and was interested in helping and she was also able to communicate what she wanted and needed for herself which saved a lot of frustration. My mom also mentioned that by 4, it was okay for her to be left alone with an activity for a few minutes while she went to shower or start dinner or whatever she needed to do in another room. I really think it's been a great age gap and now as adults, it really doesn't feel like there is much of a gap.

Sending so many prayers for you and your family. 💕 A few years ago I started having panic attacks. (Senior year of college about to graduate, getting a new job and planning a wedding outside of the country… I was overwhelmed to say the least) One of the biggest things I learned with panic attacks is to let it come and try your best not to resist. I would resist it every time it happened at first. It made it sooo much worse and I couldn’t understand why. But I learned to accept it: yes, it’s uncomfortable, but it will pass. After that they came less and less & now if it does ever happen I kinda say “ehh, this is fine, bring it on” and it’ll go away within a minute. I went through a year of having the attacks before I learned this. So sharing just in case it could help you or anyone reading the comments. Its so scary & unexplainable. My now hubby would try his best to help but like you said you’re the only one who can get yourself out of it. So much love to you guys! ❤️

From personal experience I can say a 4 year age gap is pretty amazing! Me and my little sister are just under 4 years apart and growing up it was perfect. It was enough of a gap that I feel like we were able to have our own separate friends and lives but close enough that we have always been best friends and able to relate to each other even now that we're both adults! I hope your little girls will have a similar experience and I'm so excited for you and Tyler!

Obviously everybody deals with panic attacks differently. I had them for a short time as a younger adult and finally realized one night that the only thing that helped was when I put on my shoes, put on a jacket, took my purse and car keys, and sat on the front porch. No, i would never have driven in that state of mind, but just changing locations (getting out of bed) and tricking my mind that I was leaving (choosing flight over fight I suppose).....it worked every time. The fresh air and taking control in that moment.....and then my husband would give me 15 minutes to just be in that moment and would come get me and be so sweet helping me back to bed. Love and blessings for you, Tyler, Gigi and the new baby (and Pinoch!).

I had these same medical/insur/pediatrician questions when our now 7 month old was born. Here was our experience: - Baby was covered under my insurance for 30 days, they won’t even add her to the plan until she exists outside the womb. - Hospital pediatrician checked baby in the hospital. That doc is not our regular pediatrician now. - I called her pediatrician office and set up an appointment while we were still at the hospital (day after she was born) . Our hospital wanted to know that appt. was scheduled before we left. Hope this helps!

Ahahahaha I just love you! Pinocchio had to make sure everyone knew he was the baby BOY of the house 😂 and also, new baby girl should be covered insurance wise as an extension of you for the first 30 days but needs own coverage day 31 onward.

Speaking of unsolicited advice 😂 I worked as a NICU nurse for a little while and we always gave babies swaddle baths! It is LIFE CHANGING! just swaddle baby in a little FLEECE blanket and put baby in her little tub in the swaddle. Get the swaddle nice and wet and then you just pull out her arm, wash it, put it back etc. I'm not kidding when I say it's the best thing ever. No more screaming babies in the bath because they are nice and warm and contained the whole time. I share this with everyone I know who's having a baby! I hope you see this!

Being in the medical field for 28 yrs with ob and now newborn case manager.. Usually the hospital has a pediatrician on call that takes care of baby when born. They will follow baby until discharge, make sure to call your pediatrician office before you leave the hospital to make sure you baby has a newborn check 1 to 2 days after delivery.

My brother and I are 4 years apart and my parents really loved it. It allowed them time to enjoy him being a baby and be sole focus. And like you were talking about with gigi, having a new sibling come along is big for them. So they always said they didn't feel like they were forcing him to hurry up and grow up because a new baby was coming. He wasn't having everything taken from him just because I was coming along. It wasn't "Oh you need to give up your crib, potty train, give up your bottle and share us in 9 months time." But instead he was already done with those things in a non rushed way so sharing was something they could work on leading up to my birth. And they liked he was a little more independent because of age so it wasn't as stressful on them. They could make him breakfast and he could feed himself as they sat at the table and bottle fed me. I'm in no way saying if kids are closer in age that's wrong as everyone has to do what works for their individual families, but those were some of the pros my parents had for the age gap and some you Jess may experience as well. 💜

Positive vibes to your families! You both were so smart to space everything for little GiGi. Those are big changes for her! Usually a pediatrician will visit, even if it’s not your own, someone will round. At least it’s where I live. Also, you have 30 days to notify your insurance that you want to add the baby to the policy. She is covered by your plan for those 30 days, just let the insurance know of her birth. Pinocchio was living his best doggie life! Lol.

We added our kiddos after they were born. Usually you want to add them within 30 days. I don’t work at a private hospital, but we do have some docs that work in clinics that come when the patient delivers and they do both, but for the most part, babies are seen by the in house docs. The first appointment is usually 1 or 2 days after discharge, so they get seen pretty quick by their pediatrician too.

My girls are 3 years and 10 months apart. We were in the same boat with originally trying to get pregnant and then actually becoming pregnant. It’s been good. My oldest was able to help, so that was nice. This fall she will be a freshman in college and my baby a freshman in high school. Enjoy every moment, it flies by.

Sounds like your first doc really really needed a good office manager! My husband is a family med physician and he also delivers babies. So he does ob/gyn when you're expecting, delivers the baby and then cares for you and your family afterward and I can promise you, not all offices are like your old one!! He has a totally amazing office manager so all those appointments and records and communication are taken care of immediately. I'm glad you have found new practices that make you feel comfortable and cared for - that's SO important to your mental health!

You're right about the pediatrician! There is a group of pediatricians that are typically on rotation to visit the newborns in the hospital, but your pediatrician may or may not be part of that group (sounds like yours probably won't be). But the baby will still get checked on! I'm due the exact day (or maybe the next day after) as you, so it has been so fun to "walk" through this exact stage of life with a friend! :)

Hi Jessica! Glad the baby is doing well! When you said that when you dropped Genevieve off to school and she cried, it brought me back to when I started kindergarten, my house was on a cul de sac and the school, was at the end of the cul de sac. My mom would take me and drop me off and I would cry and be all upset. Then, I would leave the school and walk back home! This went on for months! She couldn’t get me to stay! I just wanted my mom! I finally got over it!, I just had my 52nd birthday on February 8, so, that was a long time ago and hadn’t thought about it in years! My sister and I were 4 years apart, we didn’t get along, but we do now. My kids are 22 months apart. I was blessed with a boy and a girl! Thanks for bringing back those memories for me! Im sending you and the family good vibes. It was 80 degrees here in California! I wish we got some rain and snow, but, it just doesn’t happen. I’m an hour away from Disneyland!🌺🌺🌺

Girl, don't let others stress you out over the "age gap" my sons are a little under 4 years apart too and I wouldn't have it any other way. It truly was a blessing in disguise! My oldest son understood what was going on and was ecstatic about being a big brother. He was such a big helper and wanted to be involved in everything! That would be my only advice include her in everything to do with her new little sister even if it takes a little more time getting things done. I think having the role of big brother really helped mine transition from being alone with us and having all our attention to us needing to share our time between both of them. I really think us including him and asking for his help really made him feel like a big boy and even though our attention wasn't solely just on him anymore he didn't really notice as his baby brother also needed his attention so caring for baby was a family responsibility we all chipped in so he never felt left out. We also would take him to do big boy things and leave baby with Nana so he could still have that one on one time with mommy and daddy! It's also amazing not needing to buy diapers for two and already having one on a routine helps mama not be so exhausted. Love hanging out and chatting Jess, this long time subscriber adores watching your family grow. You are going to do wonderful on this new journey don't stress the small stuff and enjoy it because it truly flies by so fast! Sending lots of prayers for your guys families and also to you for a safe delivery and a healthy baby!

My husband and I don’t do presents for V-Day or any holiday. Instead we go on a little weekend trip or to a concert or a theater show. We just got back from a long weekend in Orlando. Something to make memories together and that we both really like. I feel like people put too much pressure on themselves to find the perfect gift, so this is a good solution!

My girls are 3 and a half years apart. My oldest was in daycare before her sister was born, and I was sooooo glad. It gave me a couple hours a day with just the new baby, and it gave her something that was just her own. She could go, play with her friends, and not have to be quiet bc a baby’s sleeping, or wait for me to finish nursing so I could play w her, or share a toy, or whatever. ❤️

Everything you are talking about, I just went through! I have a 3 month old and a 4 year old, they are exactly 4 years apart and I was nervous about the age gap as well but it is so nice! My 4 year old is so independent, not jealous, loves his brother, helps out, sleeps in his own bed, goes to the bathroom on his own, it is so great! So don't worry! and you typically have 30 days AFTER you have the baby to add them to your insurance. that was the case with me! and my pediatrician is within a different system than the hospital that we had the baby. the hospital usually has their own pediatrician see the baby after birth and then once you take them to their first appointment 2 days after birth, that is when they are established within the peds practice. :):)
