Kari , when we buried my mom it was pouring. We had a large tent over us to keep us sort of dry. But as I sat there I watched a stream of water flooding over the fake grass and non stop pour into mothers grave. Mom never learned to swim as she was terrified of running water. All I could think of was that mom was going into a vault full of water. It was heartbreaking. It bothers me still many years later.

@ida on the sunken grave question you asked, it takes anywhere between 6 months to a year or more for the grave to completely settle. When you dig a hole you cannot get the ground packed back in as well as it was before the hole was dug and over time the grave will sink, meaning the dirt compacts more, and the cemetery will need to add dirt to the grave. I work at a cemetery and we check graves regularly for the first year or so. There are times we will add dirt to a grave 3 or 4 times over the year. I hope that you see this comment and if you do please let the cemetery office know that you think that the grave needs more dirt added to it so they can take care of it.

Hey Kari, I have a question for you. My boyfriend passed away in 2019 of diabetic organ failure. But when it was time to meet the funeral director and handle paperwork and decided to cremate him we were asked if we would like a last private visit with him before he gets cremated. We agreed for it and found out it was going to cost $150 extra for this last private visit. We walk into the viewing room and see him on the table and I look at him and his eyes and mouth are glued shut. I never heard of funeral homes doing this. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ why glue???! It was messy on his mouth almost like lip gloss.

My grandmother on my father's side died in 2009 on april fools day. We had her funeral services a few days later. The night before her services we had a huge snowstorm and below zero weather. When we got up that morning and saw snow up to our thighs and ice everywhere we didn't think that we would be able to have her services that day . But fortunately we were able to do everything on time and then have her burial. Gosh i just remember snow and ice and slipping when we got to the cemetery to bury her. The same thing happened when my sister died a year later only this time it wasn't snow . It was 100 degrees outside and it rained that morning so the parking lot and streets were flooded. My mom died in 2015 in march .same thing . Big snow storm the night before and snow and ice all over . But fortunately everything went smoothly.

Situation with father's current wife who was the balking at every turn from we siblings was so stressful. Even though our father had a will that was clearly stated, current wife was uncooperative. Things my father bequeathed clearly, she "could not find" items. My sibs and I took the high road in this unfortunate situation in order to avoid conflict...wife asked the three of us to make arrangements for graveside service. Agreeably we did so. However, at last moment wife changed arrangements to a full service in funeral home. Anyway she could cause conflict, she did. We still took high road and gave her what she wanted. Her actions during funeral were so bizarre it was almost laughable..what widow buys a paper shredder, large safe, new security system when one was in place? And expected Estate to cover expenses of all..still with no conflict from us. I'd never experienced such as the grief she caused...there are greedy folks out there, even during a time in which the family is grieving they're father. It was a terrible situation, even though my father had left her a lifetime estate in his beautiful home....the prenup was never located....hence a shredder? I'm just glad my sibs and I remained the gracious people we are...well known, well respected... sometimes we have to protect our own integrity and move on..even when it's a huge nightmare...just food for thought....
