@@michellec717 God also said "Love another like yourself". Love yourself too, not just the other. There is nothing good about giving some one stuff that you need yourself. If you hurt yourself by giving something away, do not give, because you are not giving it out of love, you are doing it out of "duty" and hurting another person in the process (yourself). Love is a stream from the human heart. If a person doesn't love him/herself, then the stream stops flowing, then he/she are not truly able to love other people, just feel sorry for them (which is totally different thing). Just my opinion

Thank you for covering this case! Loretta had turned her life around and it's so sad that it was all taken from her by two very selfish individuals. Her sister Diem actually passed away shortly after Loretta's death, which is another sad turn to this story. Blake and Victoria are vile people. The worst part is that Victoria was recently granted escorted visits into the community! What a disgrace and slap in the face to Loretta's memory. As a Canadian, our justice system needs a lot of work.

Unfortunately rising poverty and wealth inequality is leading to worsening mental health, addictions, and more violence and crime. More women and other marginalized people are stuck in abusive and toxic situations because of the housing crisis. Wages are so low and cost of living is so high. Hey, do you mind if I ask you a question then? Adrian mentioned at the end that the police investigation "faltered" after they learned that Loretta was of Inuit descent, but he didn't really give any details about how that was the case. Could you shed any light on this, specifically any examples of how the investigation might have been mishandled after that point, like for example oversights or even sheer laziness that ended up delaying the eventual arrests or prosecution? I'm extremely interested in the topic of systemic failures of the police in cases of missing indigenous women, so when Adrian mentioned that point it got me asking questions... Thanks in advance!
@briannacm8741
@briannacm8741 Жыл бұрын
@@pizzlerot2730 The only info I've heard or could find was that Loretta's parents felt a shift after her it was brought up that she was in fact, Inuk. Exert I found: "When they said she was a white woman, I would call to the investigators and they would answer to me and I would talk personally to the investigators and after, when they started calling her Inuk, I had to start swearing and everything to get answers," said Miriam Saunders. "After that, I started talking to this go-between." Halifax Regional Police issued a statement saying that, as part of a set process, a family liaison officer is always assigned to cases involving homicides and missing persons who "is responsible for ensuring effective communication with the family, to the extent possible without jeopardizing the investigation." In my opinion, there is alot more perceived racism today, then actual racism.
@pizzlerot2730
@pizzlerot2730 Жыл бұрын
@@briannacm8741 interesting, thanks for that information. And regarding racism, there's definitely a lot of both, with different amounts of each in different geographical and societal areas. Where it gets tricky is trying to root out true systemic racism, because it's very difficult to prove and is often passed off as perceived racism. Very rarely can we point a finger at an obvious bad apple in the system; the vast majority of it is actually a manifestation of the subconscious biases of many people, so by definition we tend to not be aware of it until after the fact (if ever). It's a tough nut to crack, but that's why it's important to keep asking questions, and also to pay attention to the statistics since that's the best way to discover biases in data.

More than one-third (38%) of persons accused of homicide in 2017 were identified by police as Indigenous. This proportion has been increasing since 2014 when 31% of persons accused of homicide were Indigenous. The rate of Indigenous people accused of homicide in 2017 was 12 times higher than the rate of non-Indigenous accused (11.12 vs. 0.93 per 100,000 population). @@mjanny6330 do you think they do crime because they are aboriginal and it’s in their biology? Or because lower socioeconomic status puts a demographic at a higher rate of crime ? If the lower socioeconomic status overlaps with a specific demographic (aboriginal) meaningfully , some people link the crime to the ethnicity instead of linking it to the poverty. Alleviate the poverty and you can alleviate the crime. Systemic ills require systemic solutions. But some people don’t want anything to change because they think increasing the systemic support for poor people will somehow make it worse for the rich people.
