So much so, that one night I dreamt about the ending, and I distinctly remember to this day feeling absolutely mortified as I came up to a giant wall of nitro crates. I ABSOLUTELY love this. I know as a franchise Crash doesn't have as much content as others, but people like you keep it going. And these kinds of mods give me a whole new appreciation for the level design. The fact the last warp room was comparitively easier highlights how well designed the difficulty curve is in the game. Also watching the behaviors of Nitro crates when you let them go completely unhinged is hilarious. And that detour to get the perfect roll out on the polar level? I applaud your dedication. Hey. I just just stumbled upon this in the feed and I just want to tell you how much I fucking appreciate the fact that you immediately disqualified abusing respawn masks. Too often I find videos of people doing challenge runs only to abuse some mechanic that's only allowed because they decided to word the challenge in just such a way that it was allowed. it always feel cheap af. If you are gonna leave in a cheese for your own challenge run on a technicality, make that the challenge run instead.

I'm honestly surprised that the remake developers missed that with the second polar level. One of their playtesters was a worldwide top ten speedrunner of the PS1 trilogy. Any strats that they messed up, he was tasked with catching and they were to fix. To the point of intentionally recreating glitches that existed in the original. Anything and everything you could do in the original was supposed to be possible here.

One thing I noticed after watching possibly too many Crash speed runs, there are instances where you can jump and spin on top of nitro crates to make them explode without taking damage. I'm glad this came with it's own challenges and solutions compared to doing a minimum boxes/wumpa run I gave it a shot a while ago and found you can beat the original CB2 with ~50 boxes and 0 wumpa collected (ignoring the item glitch where you can beat the game with 0 of each). Aside from Snow Go and Hangin Out, it's just the boulder and polar levels that have unavoidable boxes, although they have their own ways you can try to lower the amount as much as possible (you can spin while landing on the top box of Snow Go and crawl over the bottom one at the cost of collecting the only wumpa in the game, you can NSS fast enough to de-load most boxes in the boulder levels and rely on the RNG boulder bouncing to get over some others, you can mask abuse Hangin Out to get around the boxes on the grate before getting blocked by that TNT wall, you can skate around the nitro section at the end of the Cold Hard Crash death route to avoid both boxes and wumpa, etc.)

It’s funny because last year I went through a full play though of Crash 2 on PS1 trying to get the highest percent completion with the least boxes broken. It was a very interesting challenge and some of the levels may be able to be improved upon, but I wasn’t able to figure out a way to personally. Here’s all my notes for each level: Crash Bandicoot 2 - Least Boxes Broken, Highest Percent Hub 1 (8 boxes total): Turtle Woods - 0 boxes, blue gem (from 0 boxes) Snow Go - 2 boxes, red gem Hang Eight - 0 boxes, grey gem (from time trial) The Pits - 0 boxes Crash Dash - 6 boxes (from boulder) Hub 2 (26 boxes total): Snow Biz - 0 boxes Air Crash - 0 boxes (need Aku Aku), grey gem (from death route) Bear it - 9 boxes (from TNT auto detonate) Crash Crush - 17 boxes (from boulder) The Eel Deal - 0 boxes, green gem Hub 3 (17 boxes total): Plant Food - 0 boxes, gold gem (from time trial, need Aku Aku) Sewer or Later - 0 boxes, grey gem (from gold gem path) Bear Down - 2 boxes (from TNT auto detonate), Air Crash secret Road to Ruin - 0 boxes, grey gem (death route) Un-bearable - 15 boxes (from bear), Totally Bear secret level Hub 4 (15 boxes total?): Hanging Out - 13 boxes?, requires 2 masks for completion, Totally Fly secret level Diggin’ It - 0 boxes, grey gem (death route), Road to Ruin secret level Cold Hard Crash - 2 boxes, grey gem (death route), must be first try and have mask Ruination - 0 boxes, grey gem (green gem path), Aku Aku farm Bee-having - 0 boxes, purple gem Hub 5 (0 boxes total): Piston It Away - 0 boxes, grey gem (death route) Rock It - 0 boxes Night Fight - 0 boxes, grey gem (death route) Pack Attack - 0 boxes Spaced Out - 0 boxes, grey gem (all colored gem path) Hub 6 (secret hub): Totally Bear - requires boxes Totally Fly - 0 boxes, no gem In total, this is a grand total of 66 boxes broken by any means. If you only count boxes broken by Crash and no stage hazards, then there are only 17 required boxes. Unfortunately, I did not write down what percent completion I had achieved. The big mystery level on lowest box breaking is Hanging Out. In the one section ARD mentioned he needed an Aku mask for, instead there are unavoidable normal boxes and TNT crates. Something interesting I noticed was that by setting off one of the TNT crates and back tracking in the level to a certain point fast enough, the TNT auto detonates at what seems to be around the same time that some of the boxes unload from the level (at least from what I could tell since I don’t have access to mods). This was horribly inconsistent and a variable amount of boxes were broken every time it worked. My lowest total box count for the level was 13 boxes using this exploit, but an even lower box count could be possible. Using the item glitch, technically the game is possible to beat and 200% with only 2 boxes broken from Snow Go, but that kind of defeats the purpose of the challenge. If anyone manages to find a lower box count on any of the levels I mentioned, then by all means let me know.

I mean that polar bear level with those 4 crates, I'm ok with it. Considering you technically beat it legitimately from the crates blowing themselves up on a 1%, cheap but not modded, AND you showed that without that 1% glitch there is a possibility to sneak under the crates, I'd pass it. Can't really argue when you go above and beyond to that extent. That being said, congratz on such an achievement!
