Coho Salmon Limits in Area 10 6/16/2024

Niles and I got out again in area 10 for resident Coho. We fished very briefly just off Eddie Vine launch, but then moved over to Jeff's Head. We managed to get our limits after just a few hours. In the process we caught and released a couple good sized chinook and several shaker coho and Blackmouth.
Was a perfect day for fishing, super calm, just a light brief rain, almost no wind, very few boats.
The only complaint was that the Coho are small. Not entirely unexpected given that they are resident, but still slightly disappointing. They cut up beautifully though.
By the way, Happy belated Father's day to the dads out there.

Nice, we got out there a little later that morning and landed 1 but got into the cabbage as the tide started moving. Spoon for us on the winner. Good work!

What color Brads mini cut plug is that? The fish really dig it! I think when your rod bends over like that it’s likely kelp or weeds. If you always come up clean it’s kelp. Great video! Thanks!

It was dark orange or light red. I’m not certain. My buddy bought it.

I always thought jellyfish. Usually some gunk on lure or line to support that theory, but not always.

I have been mostly fishing with my buddy on his boat so far this year. I actually got out on my Kayak this morning for some Kokanee at Lake Stevens. Went 3 for 12....😆. For smaller resident Coho I don't run my big brads. I use spoons or hoochies with an 8" flasher and herring scent. When we get after Chinook in the bubble or the fall run Coho I will use my brads with an 11" flasher or a spoon.

@@NghiaPham-xi5so The late summer/fall coho are generally significantly larger. You could potentially still hook into resident Coho though.

Concerning the rod dip thing, jelly fish most of the time for me. I normally find red flesh on my line after that happens.

Action: Closes retention of Chinook and changes coho daily limit to one (1). Clarifies chum retention rules and West Elliott Bay seasons. Species affected: Chinook and coho salmon. Effective dates, locations, and rules: Marine Area 10, except Elliott Bay, and year-round piers (Bremerton Boardwalk, Illahee State Park Pier, Seacrest Pier, and Waterman Pier): Immediately through Sept. 30, 2023: Salmon daily limit two including no more than one coho. No minimum size. Release Chinook and chum. Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, 2023: Salmon daily limit two including no more than one coho. No minimum size. Release Chinook. Elliott Bay, waters of Elliott Bay east of a line drawn from West Point to Alki Point, up to the mouth of the Duwamish River, and including Harbor Island: Aug. 18 through Sept. 30, 2023: Salmon daily limit two including no more than one coho. No minimum size. Release Chinook and chum. Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, 2023: Salmon daily limit two including no more than one coho. No minimum size. Release Chinook. Reason for action: The current estimate of Chinook sublegal encounters for the summer fishery is 9,471 of 7,748 total sublegal encounters (122%) agreed to in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF). Therefore, WDFW will close the fishery to Chinook retention. Additionally, the current estimate of coho catch for the month of July is 11,665 coho. The preseason expected catch of coho in the month of July was 4,810 coho, almost 250% above the expected catch. The retention limit for coho is being reduced to minimize impacts on coho stocks of concern.”
