Or he was collecting coins without looking for high value ones. Half of my stuff would value at its face value. Other third will be worthless as stuff is demonetized. I would still value that stuff myself as a memory from childhood and piece of history.

The coins on the yellow sheets appear to be a substitute for a coin catalogue. From what I saw it's every date and mintmark for some series and a range of values. It's unfortunate that the vast material is common, spendable coins.

I don't think that was his inventory. I think that was him compiling a price guide for looking at values. The ranges he puts in are consistent with the typical ranges of those mentioned coins so I believe that it was just a reference rather than inventory that existed. With collectors especially there is generally a range of quality. The guys who collect stuff that could be worth 20k a coin will generally not also collect say junk colonial silver. The guys who collect 1000 dollar coins also probably won't do that and they certainly wouldn't collect change. So I think it was just a reference guide for spotting stuff in the wild or from estate sales.

Another interesting video, Daniel. You never know what you will find. I'm like you. Someone else has already been through it and removed the good stuff and either kept it or sold it. There's a lot to unpack here even without a lot of good scores. Just paying attention to how you go through coins is a lesson. And you were just rattling off info as you went. One of the most educationally dense videos I've seen for new collectors, honestly. At my coin club there was a salesman card like the one here but it was 5 canadian dollars all toned gorgeous colours in the cardboard... I looked closer with a flashlight and saw every one of them was cleaned. Knew it was too good to be true. Oh well, that's what makes special stuff special.

Lol Man I sure would’ve liked to had gone thru those Lincoln cents….and that silver dime on the chain looks like what they do with babies. Its an old wives tale to put a silver coin around on their wrist or like a necklace to help the baby while teething. At least it was anti microbial if baby put in mouth, but as for choking hazard…not so safe. Lol. Can’t believe they didn’t have any “butterware” dishes with coins! 🤣🤣

I have a tupperware box stuffed with coins that I started going thru. Looks about $100 FV in silver, mostly Walking Libs, Peace and Morgan dollars. Some of the Morgans have good dates; 1892-S, 1896-S, 1903-S from what I have looked up; there is a 1906-D Barber half, not a rare date but looks uncirculated. Some uncirculated Buffalo nickels from the 1930s. Groups of rubber-banded 2x2 silver Washingtons in the holders marked AU or BU, mostly 1963 and 1964 dates. I can trust a coin store to go thru these and give an honest appraisal? Or I try to arrive at a ballpark figure on my own? I think there's a few thousand dollars worth of coins. It will take a few hours or even days to go thru it all.

In the Albuquerque area we no longer have a coin shop for the general collector. We have a dozen old men who "specialize" in gold, silver and "rare antiquities. It's such a disappointment. I loved the coin shops I used to visit, albeit not often enough. So, my collecting has come down to coin rolls and filling books for my grandkids. I do not trust anything online at all. I have a penny from the 90’s that has teeny tiny different colored hexagonal crystals on it…I tried brushing them off but they’re actually growing on the penny and it’s quite cool and pretty to look at under the scope. It must be environmental damage? I haven’t found any others like it only one that has one crystal growing on it but this particular one has several and you can see the sparkle in the light with your eyes…the crystals catch the light. Has anyone else seen a coin with crystals growing on it? I wonder what kind of crystals they are? Pretty unique to me but maybe it’s common? 🤔

Join CONECA and consult with one of the attributers there. A 2019 D doubled die isn't going to be worth much, you should be looking for the more rare and valuable so it is worth your time.
