Mavis Staples is 85 years old ! She has been an activist for civil rights, and has performed with just about everyone! I was so privileged to see her with Bonnie Raitt a couple of years ago. Thank you for having her on the show. She exudes hope! And Talent! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Anyone who wants a taste should do themselves a favor & get the live record of her 75th b-day concert…the all-star guests are something & Mavis calling out a crowd member for not joining in on ‘I’ll Take You There’ is just priceless.

Hope is alive! I distinctly remember listening to You Are Not Alone the morning of Nov 9 2016. It felt like the world had changed overnight and I felt serious worry about the world my kids would inevitably inherit. What a salve and a comfort that song brought me in that time of darkness. This blessing of a performance , by these two national treasures, is like the hopeful bookend. I have not felt this positive about our future in 8 years.

That reaction to that election made me think of American Aquarium's "The World is on Fire". Supposedly BJ didn't finish it until 2017 because he was in too dark a place to bring the positivity it needed.

Thank you Stephen, and staff, for an awesome job doing four live shows basically "on the fly". Your show has helped keep me sane since 2015. It let me know I was not the only one seeing how far America strayed off course. I feel the ship taking a hard turn to port, the main sails are about to hoist and the spinnakers are ready to fill with wind. Captain Kamala and First Officer Tim will be at the helm come November. (My Dad was Canadian Navy - he ran the engine room - nothing he couldn't fix). This Canadian, and her American hubby, are rooting for you from north of the 49th. VOTE BLUE
