I'm disgusted by the fact that he had to be convinced about Bill Cosby, and that it took this long. Clearly Stephen or one of Jerry's people told him during the commercial to walk back his defence in part 1. And he still tried to half defend it. There's no way he hasn't thought about it over the last couple of years. The out of nowhere Bill Clinton comparison bothered me too, it's a trope that shows he's been eating up right wing media.

Cosby's jokes rested on the audience's favorable view of him as a personable figure; in all his jokes he presented himself as the protagonist and as a respectable person; his jokes rested on his ability to get his audience to identify with him as 'the common man', and a family man. All of the humor of his jokes rested on the supposition that he was obviously an honorable man to society- but here, all these strange things were happening to him- and thus, humor resulted not from his jokes, per say, but from the audience's assumption of his respectable personality.

In all fairness: I think *Seinfeld more than deserves his self-compliment!* Because he's absolutely right: you rarely see someone change his/her opinion (not only on TV!) The reason is that it's very hard to change your opinion: from a psychological standpoint, it's actually *one of the hardest things to do!* So kudos Jerry, and cheers :) PS: And I don't even like Seinfeld (as a comedian as well as personally)... maybe I'll have to change my opinion too... ;)
@arx7546 жыл бұрын
MrNodebate; Al he did was say, on national tv, that he had changed his mind. AND pointed out that few people do what he'd just done. Seriously? Don't get me wrong. LOVED the Seinfeld program, but geez, Seinfeld is really playing us for fools if he thinks we really think he changed his mind. And, btw, I think it depends on the person---and the person who allegedly committed a crime, etc.---re how we then think about that person. Would be nice if there were actually 'rules", but there are not.

@casmo873 жыл бұрын
@@c.a.g.3130 I disagree. Seinfeld has long said Cosby was one of his all time favourite comedians. If he goes back and listens to his old records, what Cosby did is either not going to effect his perception of Cosbys humour, or it's going to make him just feel downright awkward because he can never look at the man in the same light, with the same respect he once held knowing what he now knows. I grew up loving Bill Cosby. All his shows like The Cosby Show, Cosby Mysteries and Cosby were all on in our house. I don't know how I'd feel watching those again though. Who knows?
@c.a.g.31303 жыл бұрын
@@casmo87 Well, you'll find out when you go watch him again. Personally, I was never a Cosby fan (thought he was OK) but my friends loved him. I was more along the lines of Abbott & Costello. Cosby was more observational of human foibles than language incongruities. I preferred attention on the latter. But I still recognize his genius and that doesn't change because of his personal shortcomings. Half the great films of the last 25 years were produced by Harvey Weinstein; do you not watch them because he was a creep? Also, note that Jerry does not do colleges any more. He simply does not want to deal with their PC BS. He could just face them down but he's not that kind of guy. As a Long Islander, it seems the same way here; he doesn't want to fight with a knucklehead like Colbert (who is not even in his league).

@AceFondu7 жыл бұрын
I'm with them that you can't separate Cosby from his material anymore, but Jerry had an interesting question of "should we." That's a good question to ask, and I would say yes we should, even though we can't unfortunately. I say this because in any other field we would. Like, say someone develops a cure for cancer, then turns out to be a cannibal. Would we suddenly stop using his cure, or recognizing him as the guy that cured it? I don't think so. We would also remember he ate people though lol.
@bohemianfeminist38005 жыл бұрын
And he was swayed in this case only by the specifics of Cosby's art interacting with his personality in a unique way: in his particular case, the humour is grounded in his hypocritical 'father-figure' moralizing. I'd still find a lot of his material funny, but in most cases the joke is ruined.
@chipcasino61765 жыл бұрын

No I don't think he will, because he believed it when it was said, That his comedy was built on the fact he was a trustworthy, (gym teacher,) this rapist was a high school teacher, his comedy included those years. Jerry just needed to focus on these things because it was brought to his attention, he did and changed his point of view, kudos Jerry Seinfeld.

Going back to the ghost dots when texting, the worst is if someone mistakenly hit a single letter and it appears as though someone is sending you a message when in reality the conversation is done and you're still expecting someone to message you.

Colbert being the more educated one knew exactly why the term 'prehistoric' is used ie 'historic' period is the span of time where events were written down, 'prehistoric' being the time span beforehand; I guess he read 'How to Win Friends and Influence People'.

I really respect that Jerry Seinfeld brought back up the conversation about Bill Cosby after the commercial break even though they had moved on in the interview so that the issue could be properly addressed. It would have been easier for him to dodge the subject and I think it shows a lot of character.

I agree with Seinfeld about telephone courtesies. When I get a call, I answer "Yes". if they ask me "Is this Mr. So-and So?" I immediately command them to identify themselves. If they fail to do, I hang up and use the "Root Call Blocker Pro" Android app to never hear from that number again ... they had their one chance that I allow.

John Cleese made a funny observation about some modern nomenclature surrounding electrical devices. He was on a plane and just prior to take off, they were told to 'power down' their phones etc and he turned to the person next to him and said, "Is that the same as switching it off?" He thought it was ludicrous and hilarious, which it is!

I have watched Jerry Seinfeld on many shows and when he doesn't respect the body of work of the host he usually just commanders the show and ends up doing everything. But Stephen Colbert holds his own and even adds to the whole pre bit by doing the pre taping bit and Jerry actually respects him. This was great.

Jerry Seinfeld is a smug prick, just watch his interview with Larry King. Watch how Jerry responds to Larry King about the way Seinfeld went off the air. Also I think the show's success is due to LARRY DAVID'S excellent comedic writing skills not Jerry's, it's obvious that he road L. David's coat tails in that regard. Let's not forget (how could we) Jerry's crappy acting. Oh & he has not done one good TV show or Movie since, coincidence i think not.
